Always on high heat and shuts off after 20 minutes

The dryer stays on high heat and I can't select temperature, after 20 minutes starts making a different noise and shuts off, I can restart it one hour later after cooling off I also noticed a burned plastic/rubber smell, Is the temperature selector switch faulty or something else?

Check the complete venting system inside the dryer and to the vent outside. Be sure and check for lint & god knows what around the blower wheel. Get everything 100% clean. Insert a thermometer into the vent coming out of the dryer with the vent hose off. Start the dryer on high heat & see if it will go to not over 180% and start going lower like 130% or so if it drops back it's ok . If it don't stop & go down cycle thermostat is most likely bad. The reason it won't start for an hour may be the motor gets too hot. You could put an ohm meter across the connection on the cycle therm and heat it with a small torch or something & see if it will show open after heating. Just a guess lots of things cause these problems. Clean that motor too. Lint may cause it too run hot.

SOURCE: screeching noise and burn smell how do I open dryer to repair

Pull it out from the wall, unplug it and remove the back panel by removing the screws. The problem is most likely the belt around the drum which is either worn out or out of alignment. Take a look at it and decide if you can just straighten it on the drum or if you will need to buy a new belt.

SOURCE: wont start, smells like something is burniing

if its electric burning smell, its either a overheating motor, capacitor or both or burnt connections, sounds like a motor problem,it will be very hot to touch if its failing, check capacitor though as it could be causing motor to overheat, rating of cap is on side

Our Miele Tumble drier (Touchtronic T8013C) dries and heat fine but the 20 minutes and 40 minutes functions do not heat (only the regular drying cycle). Any one has an answer?

i don't know. first guess is regular drying cycle makes predetermined heat levels and sensor that shuts off heat and dryer when it decides clothes are dry. 20/40 minute
choices may be fan only unless there is a manual temperature control that you can set eg. off/low/med/high..

Gas Dryer wont stay lit.

It may be your dryer vent piping. If the piping from the dryer to the outside of the house is clogged with lint (which happens periodically) the dryer cannot get rid of the heat generated by the gas burner. When the temperature reaches a certain level the high limit switch opens and shuts the burner off. The switch closes again after the dryer cools down. Check the lint filter and all the vent piping for any obstructions and clean out thoroughly. This should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

Whirlpool LER4634EQO Runs for about 2 minuts and shuts off.

It is possible your Cycling Themostat is not working properly. It determines at what temperature to turn heat on and off to maintain a consistent dryer temp. The High Limit Thermostat would turn off the heat but your dryer would still run. That leaves the Thermal Cut Off which is turning off your dryer. It might be faulty and turning off at too low a temp, or it might be doing it's job. In that case something else is wrong. If you can check the exhaust air temperature at the dryer, it should be under 175 degrees. If you are absolutely sure the vent is clear, then replace the Dryer Cycling Thermostat.

Kenmore dryer heats at first but then stays cool.

Check that the air entry and exit passages to and from the burner are clear of lint or a stray sock.

Dryer turns off after one minute.

Sounds as if your high temperature thermostat is going bad or is bad. Check your thermostats. If your dryer gets to hot this will shut it down for safety reason!

E-2 error code on whirlpool duet dryer

“E2” flashes if the thermistor has shorted.

The thermistor monitors the exhaust temperature
and cycles the high-limit thermostat on
and off to maintain the desired temperature.
1. Turn the dryer off but keep the electrical
supply connected.
2. Make sure that the dryer is empty and that
the lint screen is clean.
3. Close the dryer door.
4. Select Heavy Duty, Timed Dry, More Time
or Less Time, End of Cycle Signal (Louder)
and Start.
5. If error codes E1 or E2 flash on the display
after 1 minute and the dryer turns off,
the thermistor, or the wire harness, is either
shorted or open. Check the wire connections
at the thermistor or the machine
control electronics board. If wiring checks
okay, replace the thermistor.
6. If the dryer seems to operate normally, remove
the exhaust vent and start the dryer.
7. Select the desired temperature cycle to be
tested, and select 20 minutes of Timed Dry
heat using the More Time or Less Time
pushbuttons.

Kenmore Dryer works for about 20 MINUTES, not seconds

SD, doesn't sound like the same problem. Yours sounds more the like motor kicking out on overload and when it cools down you are able to start it again. The thermal fuse and high limit TCO are non resettable so you can rule them out. You are going to have to check some things out. Make sure the rollers and pulley are not binding. The blower wheel is not binding. These things will cause a drag on the drum and put a heavy load on the motor. Catriver...post back
