The dryer stays on high heat and I can't select temperature, after 20 minutes starts making a different noise and shuts off, I can restart it one hour later after cooling off I also noticed a burned plastic/rubber smell, Is the temperature selector switch faulty or something else?
Check the complete venting system inside the dryer and to the vent outside. Be sure and check for lint & god knows what around the blower wheel. Get everything 100% clean. Insert a thermometer into the vent coming out of the dryer with the vent hose off. Start the dryer on high heat & see if it will go to not over 180% and start going lower like 130% or so if it drops back it's ok . If it don't stop & go down cycle thermostat is most likely bad. The reason it won't start for an hour may be the motor gets too hot. You could put an ohm meter across the connection on the cycle therm and heat it with a small torch or something & see if it will show open after heating. Just a guess lots of things cause these problems. Clean that motor too. Lint may cause it too run hot.
SOURCE: Dryer shuts off after a few minutes
THE KENMORE DRYER I HAVE... IF REN IN THE COTTON CYCLE IT WILL RUN FOR 50 MINUTES AND SHUT OFF. ITS BOLWING HOT AIR AND THE OTHER CYCLES SEEM TO WORK FINE WITH OUT SHUTING DOWN SO ID APPRECIATE A TIP ON WHAT THIS PROBLEM COULD BE
SOURCE: burning rubber smell and the dryer will not turn on
sounds like you need a new belt for your dryer, the smell of burning rubber is the belt slipping, thats my guess
SOURCE: dryer keeps shutting off
maybe there is a sensor or a thermostate in it? check owners manual or call the company? just a thought.
SOURCE: screeching noise and burn smell how do I open dryer to repair
Pull it out from the wall, unplug it and remove the back panel by removing the screws. The problem is most likely the belt around the drum which is either worn out or out of alignment. Take a look at it and decide if you can just straighten it on the drum or if you will need to buy a new belt.
SOURCE: wont start, smells like something is burniing
if its electric burning smell, its either a overheating motor, capacitor or both or burnt connections, sounds like a motor problem,it will be very hot to touch if its failing, check capacitor though as it could be causing motor to overheat, rating of cap is on side
