Not reading hard drive when starting

That might be caused with a lot things maybe RAM, maybe a corrupted OS, or might be a loose connection of the hard drive, maybe a virus or a malware. If you can go safe mode( by pressing f8 during boot up)run your anti virus from there if that didn't work try your system restore. If that didn't work try removing your RAM and replace it (you must have a back up RAM at least for testing purposes). If that didn't work also try removing your Hard Drive. Remove it carefully then carefully re install it.(Remember to pull out the battery and the charger before removing your Hard Drive and RAM for safety precautions) If neither of the above worked, then clean installing your OS is your last option.

I Think the laptop is trying to read the hard drive to boot up and its got a problem reading it

it may be worth turning off the laptop unplug the power core remove the hard drive from the base of the laptop usually only one or two screws to take off the cover and normally quite easy to remove

then try to start up the laptop
then turn off again
give the hard drive a quick blow over the connections
replace the hard drive
and try to boot up again

if this dont help

press power up key as well as the F8 key
this will hopefully take you into the repair options
and try the last good known configuration
or
repair my computer

if this does not work then the hard drive may be corrupt of dead

which is not good new if you havent done any backup disks or have any recovery disks
or a operating system install disk

it may be worth trying this

turn off laptop
turn on laptop also pressing the F8 key at the top holding it down until hopefully it takes you
into the repair option box

then try the last known good configuration
window should then restart laptop and try to take it back to when it worked ok

if not try a few of the other options

and if you cannot use the restore option in the repair options then you may now be forced
to use the recovery method but that is a bit drastic if you have any files or photo,s stored on the hard drive

If you are desperate to save any photo's or files on your hard drive you would need another computer and a usb to sata/ ide cable so that you could remove your hard drive from your laptop
connect it to the sata/ide cable and connect the usb end to the other computer and hopefully read the hard drive from the other computer and transfer the files or photos

so if you can not start your laptop and are not concerned about loosing what is on the hard drive
you could try the acer recovery management and for this please follow these steps

turn off laptop
press power up key also press the F10 key a few times until you get the acer recovery option
if you have not set up a password your self and if it asks for a password the default password is
i believe 000000 ( 6 zero's )

then follow the instructions on the screen

Two possible Solutions:

1) The Hard Drive has come unseated - Disconnect the Power and REMOVE all connections, Close the Screen & Turn your Laptop Upside Down and Remove the Battery, Locate the Hard Drive Access Panel and Remove the Screws from the Panel, Remove the Panel, Remove the Hard Drive. Carefully Replace the Hard Drive, Replace the Panel and Reconnect the Battery & Power Supply. See if the Computer will Start

2) The Operating System is Damaged OR the Hard Drive is Dead - You will need to slave Your Hard Dive into a Second Computer and Backup ALL you Personal Data OR RISK loosing it. If the Second Computer can NOT read the Drive, the Hard Drive is Dead (A Computer Repair Company may be Able to Help)

Once your Data is Safe, you can try to Repair the OS by Booting your Computer with the Drive in it. Begin pressing F12 or F10 at bootup (Once a Second). You will be presented with an Options Page for:

System Restore (FIX WINDOWS)
System Recovery (Wipes your Computer and Retores the Factory Software)

Your hard drive is bad. That is what the SMART test is telling you. Replace the hard drvie.

i would cange the harddrive and do a clean install

Generally the bios setting will be set to check the primary Hard disk for the Operating system and then move to the CD/DVD drive . It looks like your system is not finding the hard disk. Thats why its moving on the CD drive and trying to read it.

Possible issues :

1) Hard Drive crash
Solution : Nothing much. You need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS.
2) Hard Drive connection issue.
Solution : Open the chasi and try to figure out if the hard disc is properly connected.
3) Corrupted OS or boot file
Solution : Try to repair the OS use the OS cd and run the repair option.
4) Bios setting to treat CD drive as the primary media.
Solution : Use the F10 option in the Bios to change the primary Media.

Hi, you be to be sure that your unit of this CD-DVD working correctly, of being like that, must check that both CD's are well-read correctly, once overcome this, you can to install without problems the operating system Vista to your equipment

You may insert the Windows XP CD and reinstall Windows XP just to be sure. Follow the instructions on your screen and format the C Drive. Make sure you install all the required drivers to make everything work.

If you are optimistic follow the following instructions:
This will help you attempt to repair your system (and not via the Recovery Console).
Insert the Windows XP CD and follow the instructions on your screen.
Then after a certain point, you will be asked for three options --
1. Install Windows
2. Repair via Recovery Console
3. Some other option I don't recall.

Select the first option.
Then again, follow the instructions on your screen and again the computer will ask you three options.
This time select the second one -- Attempt to repair the computer (Press R).

This should start the automated repair process. This has been observed to work most of the time, but in a few rare cases it doesn't work. So I suggest you try it if you have the patience. ;-)
