SOURCE: Qosmio g15 recovery disk error

If the discs are clean and pretty much scratch free, then this is most likely a bad hard drive. If you have another PC or laptop, try burning copies of the recovery cds and then use those. If the problem remains, you will need a new hard drive.

SOURCE: Toshiba satellite pro l40 boot up problem

If you run a repair with the recovery disc you won't lose any info. The only time you'll lose the info is if you run a complete reload. Run the system disc until it gets to the point of finding installed operating systems, at this point instead of deleting the partition, press R and it will reinstall the operating system files only leaving other installed files and programs intact. Keep in mind that many times when this happens, it's a hard drive failure. If it is a hard drive failure, then you will have to replace the hard drive and you will lose the info, sorry.

SOURCE: Can't find DVD drive under My Computer and regedit fix doesn't work for it

you may have to check the registry manually and if this will not work, you may have to reinstall windows.

1. click start > run > regedit > ok.
2. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

3. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

4. Delete Upper and Lower Filters. (If only one is availabel, that's fine).

5. Restart system and check your drive again.

NOTE: Make sure to do this correctly or else, system will not load to windows.

If manually deleting upper and lower filters will not work then you may have to backup your files and reinstall windows.

EMachines eMD620 suddenly shutdown and not boot anymore

When this happened was the laptop overly hot? If the laptop's head got too high it could have shutdown to protect itself. It wouldn't boot until the heat had disparate. Sit you laptop aside for about 30 minutes and see if it will boot then. If it does you might want to check out a cool mat.

Hi, when I turn on the Acer Aspire 5920, the acer screen comes on, the bar across the bottom moves, then it goes to a blank dark screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried turning off and turning on and...

Check if your hard rive indicator light is flashing (has disc shape icon or can shape icon next to it). If it is then put in your windows disc and do a startup repair. Make sure it is booting from the disc drive first. if it isnt flashing then you may have a dead hard drive. Try taking the hard drive out and putting it back in.

HP nx7010 - Blank Screen - wont load.

This looks like it can't recognize the hard disk or it's empty - no OS. To check that it's not a hardware fault just boot from a Linux Live-CD like http://pclinuxos.com/
If the hard disk is there and with all the data apparently intact then most likely the MBR was corrupted, fix it.

Time to look for a new computer. That and take out your hard drive to copy your files over.

Sounds like motherboard problem. Probably not worth repair.

I've got an HP desktop with similar problems. It turned on one day just fine. The next day not. I don't even get the boot up screens. Disconnecting Hard Drive and CD/DVD components do not help. I should at least get some BIOS POST beeps and a Hard Drive Not Found or such. I do not. On occassion it will boot to a blank screen with white cursor in upper left. Most the time no screen at all. On rare occassion it comes right on and boots Windows. I guess it could be the power switch ... but I doubt that.

When i turn it on the has nothing on it

Check to make sure that your memory sticks are correctly placed in the slots and have not popped out. You may have a faulty hard drive or motherboard. If you are not getting any picture of any sort on your video, then *********** board may be faulty or your video card was disabled. If you get bios or DOS start up, then your HD may have crashed.
Have you tried to boot up pc with an installation disc in the drive? Any difference? What exactly do you see when it is booted?

Gateway screen comes up; optical and (new) hard drive spin up, both drive lights light up during this time, fan spins up and air moves out of the side vent continously but still nothing but a blank screen....

If you have an operating system disc that came with your computer try putting it is and see if you can load the disc. If you can go to the repair screen after it loads all files. When you are at command prompt type: chkdsk /r

It will try to repair operating system. When done type "Exit" and restart. If you can't load the operating system disc you might be having a graphics card problem. Go to the manufacturer's website and check on their forums for your problem. Hope this helps

I have a puzzle for you ,I will describe the fault, and you leave me any information you can gather. The hard drive on Acer (xp) is 40gb, split into c&d drives The disc would not defrag as only 15%...

There is nothing that changing the partition or volume information on the Hard drive would do to cause this issue. My first suggestion would be to unplug the Hard Drive and then try turning the PC on. If you get the Acer logo up then the Hard drive has failed. Otherwise there is something wrong with the Motherboard or RAM.

I would suggest taking it in for Warranty service if it is still under warrnaty, otherwise try what I have suggested. Good luck.

Black screen not booting

check both your power and video connections to the monitor, sounds more like a monitor power issue.
if the connections appear ok, but screen still blank, try connecting a known good working monitor from somewhere else and see if it works with your pc, if it does, your original monitor is faulty, if it doesn't, you have a pc video issue.

My pc won't work!

Assuming you get 2 beeps on boot up, take the side off your pc and see if the whirring sound is coming from your hardrive, if so you may have a damaged sector on your hardrive where the boot sector is. If you have a Windows XP disc come back here, if not you need to take your hardrive to a friends pc and set your hardrive as the slave drive before connecting up. When booted up go to My computer and right click on your hard drive (could be 'D' drive or 'E' or 'F')depending on other pc. Go down to properties then tools tab and click error checking and let the system check for errors and automatically repair them. Your rating is importanat
