I have a 720. Sometimes when I press play it will rewind.

Sometimes out of the blue on my Philips 720, when I press play on either the foot pedal or manually on the machine, it will rewind. If I try to rewind or fast forward while I'm having this problem, either with foot pedal or manually, nothing will happen. The only way I can get this to stop happening is to unplug the machine, turn it over and give it a good shake and then it will be okay. I can go for a couple of months with it working fine, and then it will do this. Problem #2: Also the foot pedal plug has to be pushed at an angle to get the foot pedal to work. It's not the foot pedal cord, as I have tried a new foot pedal and get the same results. Are there some loose wires in there somewhere?

Erasing recorded tapes

While holding the 'Erase' button down, press the 'Rewind' or "Fast Forward' button. It will erase the tape while it rewinds or fast forwards.

Foot pedal FF or Rewinds when pressing Play

It's possible that there's a broken wire in the cable that connects the foot control to the machine. This usually happens near the plug that plugs into the machine, or by the end that goes into the foot control.

You can usually duplicate it if you put the auto-backspace up a bit and then hold down the play pedal on the foot control. While holding down the play pedal, try moving the cable near the machine or near the foot control in a circular motion. If the machine stops, rewinds or fast forwards, then odds are that the problem is with the cable.

Pedal problems

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.
