That is exactly what a typical M-Load mechanism is supposed to do. Once the VHS tape cassette is inserted, cassette housing cover will be flipped up and two arms will pull tape out of cassette housing to wrap tape around cylindrical spinning head housing that contains video heads and, if VHS HI-FI, audio heads as well. When stop or eject button is pressed, arms will retract and tape will wind back into cassette housing. What type of problem are you experiencing with unit? It may have nothing to do with M-load engaging tape around head cylinder.

SOURCE: Insert a VHS tape, hear sound, no picture? DVD working fine, both sound & picture. What am I doing wrong?

Likely a damaged video tape got in the unit and blocked the video heads--once blocked no picture but sound will be the case---the heads can be manually cleaned if you know how---The real issue will be to locate which tape was in the unit when this happened--clear the heads and put it back and right back to no image......

Cleaning tapes are only slightly effective--most shops (if you can find one who even works on this gear) will not charge much to clean the heads.

My Panasonic VHS Player Model PV-V4020 is locked up so I cannot insert a new tape.

This will be some form of physical damage to the carriage mechanism, that holds the tape. Sometimes it's a simple thing like the flap getting stuck. But often it's a broken piece of plastic.

My VCR/DVD combo wont play a VHS tape when inserted. Each time I insert a VHS tape, it shoots it right back out and sometimes unravels the tape around the apparatuses inside the VCR. It won't reco

the tape coming back out and unravels the tape means the loading mechanism is the problem----when a tape goes in it loads the tape down, then it pulls the tape out of the cassette and puts it up against the drum with the video heads-----many of these are belt driven and a bad belt or belts will cause this----it is called the loading and or transport mechanism.......when it fails the arms come back but the tape does not get rewound back into the cassette so it mangles it when the cassette door on the tape closes----most likely a belt or the drive idler which also rewinds and fast forwards the tape.

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

VHS Tape won't stay in compartment

Going to have to look inside but expect to find that tape is not going all the way into position and having the tape pulled out and up against the drum with the video heads.

If it does not fully load a transport problem exists--drive idler and or belts.

Faintly possible also is something that does not belong inside got in past the door and is jamming it up.

Panasonic DMR ES15, cannot record coywrighted vhs tapes onto dvd.

Try this:

If you have another VCR system (Master) you can connect it from the master to the Panasonic DMR ES15 (slave). Insert the copyrighted tape onto the master VCR system and insert a empty VHS tape on the slave system. In the slave, record from the master. When done, you can record from the videotape you have made from the master tape, to the DVD recorder.

If you still have problems, please contact the manufacturer of this model.

Record from VHS to DVD

i should imagine so if they are not copy protected films i.e shop ones .if they are tv films on tapes etc then it would be possible to do so.
via insert the vhs tape and insert the blank dvd in to its tray
play the vhs tape and press rec to record on to dvd .
