Takes a long time to locate satellite when turned on.
SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite
No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.
Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.
I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.
Be sure you update your version to the last one.

Question: Why will my nüvi 2xx not find satellite signals?
Answer:
p>If your nuvi 2xx is not acquiring satellite signals, you may need to download and run our WebUpdater program.
Go to:
http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/
If you are still having issues after updating the software on your unit, you may need to do a full master reset. Please note that a master reset erases Favorites and waypoints. Before proceeding, you may want to back up information you want to keep.
To do a full master reset to the nuvi 200 series unit:
1. Turn off the device.
2. Place your fingertip or the eraser end of a pencil in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
3. Apply pressure in the bottom right corner of the screen.
4. While pressing down on the screen, power on the unit and continue pressing on the screen. A message displays to confirm that you really want to delete all user data.
5. Touch Yes.
6. Your unit restarts automatically. You must go through the set up procedure again.
Once you complete the reset, place the nuvi unit outside where it has a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15-30 minutes. Keep it in a stationary position until it reacquires satellites.
SOURCE: Why does my GPS system have a difficult time
this is what my navigon says about gettting the gps to connect.
Initializing the GPS receiver
In the upper right-hand corner of the display, the GPS symbol appears. As soon as
data from at least 3 satellites is received, the symbol changes to (GPS Ready). Note: If possible, position the device with a clear line of sight to the sky to successfully
receive messages from the GPS satellites.
Note: GPS initialization requires data from at least three satellites. If GPS data is not
available, the receiver will not initialize.
Note: It can take up to 20 minutes to initialize the integrated GPS receiver for the first
time.
Note: Each time you turn on the device, GPS receiver initialization begins. When GPS
data is available, reception starts within one minute.
If the navigation device has been switched to standby for more than a week, the next initialization
can take up to 10 minutes.
SOURCE: trouble acquiring satellites
try the reset
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
with the unit off, try pressing and holding your finger on the low right corner of the screen and slide the power switch to the on position until you see the message "confirm if you really want to delete
all user data?" hit yes and let it restart. then it will set up the nuvi again, so follow the prompts.
if that fails, hook up the nuvi to the web updater and get the latest update
(actually i would do this either way)

SOURCE: Takes a very long time for my Garmin to locate a satellite.
The real reason it takes so long to connect is:=
The battery has to be fully charged (by AC or USB)
Using just the car charger does not do it. It is a manintenance charger.
Hence the intermittent experience you are having Freshly charged works well, not charged poor connection
Check the charge level before you use it .
