What size of hdd is supported by this laptop?

This is part of the A31 specification.

Hard drive features
  • A31 standard 2.5 inch 30GB
  • A31 standard 2.5 inch 40GB
  • A31p standard 2.5 inch 60GB
  • Supports two additional hard drives which can be used concurrently to offer expanded storage
  • S.M.A.R.T technology to issue an alert if a hardware failure is pending
  • ATA Bus Interface
  • 5400 rpm
  • Although you can upgrade the hard drive, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The Ultrabay 2000 hard drive adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second hard drive in the Ultrabay 2000

I'd like to upgrade the HD of my Thinkpad 570 2644-1AG from 4GB to 10MB or even more. IBM system FRU parts list only shows 6,10 and 12 GB as compatible drives. I have found a 40GB Toshiba IDE drive ,...

It most likely will work, but the BIOS (might be too old) may not allow you to access the full capacity of the hard disk.
You would normally lose approx. 10% of the capacity when you format the hard disk.

Thinkpad T42 Hard Disk problem

Hello.

It seems the hard disk size will max out at 80GB with a 5,400 RPM speed according to IBM.

Im sorry to say that this means that it will not support a 120Gb hard drive.
