Hello,
Printer was working fine until yesterday. All of my photos are printing with a heavy yellow tone -- this is making all of the colors in the photo looked washed out. I went through all of the cleaning options and nothing has worked. Any ideas? Thanks!
I had this problem... its the ink! Check you are using magenta and NOT "photo magenta", and also that you are using "cyan" and NOT "PHOTO cyan"... basically photo cyan, photo magenta and photo yellow are not designed for the ip4000, if you check the smallprint on the box it does not list the ip4000.
This exact problem happened to me and it was driving me crazy. I think the "photo" versions of the inks are for printers that take two tanks of each colour, and the photo version is used for very subtle colours... so if you are ONLY using these inks, photos will appear washed out, yellow etc
If you print a test pattern, do all the colors show clearly? It sounds like the cyan and magenta may be running low which means that the ink in general is low and needs replacing. If the colors come out normal during the test, it could be the USB cable itself. Although it seems to connect, a faulty USB cable or port may not be functioning properly. Try another port and a new cable if you have all colors.
I see, after you replaced the magenta and cyan, it happened. It is recommended to change all cartridges to the same brand. Canon is best but may not be compatible with Office Max ink. I would suggest replacing the yellow with an Office Max brand too just to keep the same type of ink together. The USB cable has been known to cause very odd symptoms when its faulty such as little or no color, streaks one color images and so forth. If you have an extra cable laying around, you can try that or if a friend has one. But try replacing the yellow first, at least you can return the ink if its bad.

Thanks for the info night71. When I try a test pattern, all of the colors look faded. This problem started to happen after I replaced the Magenta and Cyan cartridges. I bought the Office Max brand of these cartridges (vs. the Canon branded ones), so maybe that's contributing to the problem? Do you still think it could be the cable? Thanks again!
All of the colors are coming out or printing slightly faded on both my ip4000 and my ip6700. I tried a number of things like cleaning the printhead and changing the cartridges but nothing helps.
I have the same problem - I've changed all the cartridges to the same brand - admittedly, not canon, but is this really how bad it gets when you don't use their brand?? I've changed the cable, I've cleaned the printing heads - nothing works. Please help!!!
