My computer doesn't recognize my hooked in to 3.0 USB port on my ASUS laptop, initialized, SATA 2TG internal drive that's within an external case.

Does it need to have a Drive name?? & How do I give a drive name to a USB external SATA storage drive that has been initialized??

Depends on the operating system but normally if you can see the drive in pc manager (right click mycomputer icon, select manage, select disk management in windows) if the drive is listed then format it and allow automatic drive letter assingment

SOURCE: My PC is not recognizing my WD Passport 120GB USB external drive.

I had a similar problem with my WD passport 320GB. When I connected it to my laptop it never showed up on My Computer even though the blue light on the hard drive came on.
Here is what I did:  Right click on "My Computer" and click on "Manage" and then "Disk Management",. you should see your WD hard drive listed. then click on "change driver letters and paths"  and change it from the listed to another drive. I changed mine from G to F drive and it worked for me.

SOURCE: Trying to format a 500GB HDD at full capacity

sounds like the SATA - PATA converter doesn't accomodate for a 48 bit LBA (to handle disks of more than 137 GB)

you need to get the correct converter, as this one is not compatible, you should be able to return the converter as not fit for purpose (needs LBA 48bit).

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it.
If not - try to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it directly to the computer to recover your files.

If it is "brand-new", then it needs to be "initialized".
Click the Windows "Start" button
Right-button click on "Computer"
Choose "Manage"
Choose "Disk Management"
You'll see a view of all the disk-drives.
Select the new W.D. drive.
Right-button click on it, and choose "Initialize".

You need to purchase an USB hard drive adapter case and install your hard disk inside this case. Take your hard drive with you when you got to a computer shop so you will get the correct IDE or SATA USB adapter case.

With a brand new drive, you have to initiate your drive using the Disk Management tool in Windows.
To do this, go to Start-->Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management. Then select Disk Management from the menu on the left. Once everything is loaded up, you should see your new drive in the list of volumes on your computer. You'll have to right click on it and click Initialize Disk. Once you've initialized it, you'll have to formate the drive and create partitions.
If you need anymore help, let me know.

I want a much larger drive to fit my notebook

It looks like your current drive is a 80GB 2.5" EIDE.
The maximum you could easily get is probably 320GB for $90-100.
The price is high as SATA drives are now the standard.
Have you considered getting a 2.5" 500GB external drive, connected by USB.
The external 2.5" drives are powered off the USB and need no other connections
It would be cheaper and give you more storage.

You wouldn't have the difficulty of opening up your laptop, and if it's working OK now it's best to leave it that way.

I cannot connect my external hard drive through the sata port

Install the external hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter case. You can then connect this into the Toshiba's USB port. The Toshiba will see this as an external storage device.

I need to add a hard drive to my HP a1220n Pavilion for Photoshop and other Graphic programs. How can I do it if there is no available slot? Please help.

Hi,

A desktop PC would normally have capacity for 4 IDE devices such as 1 CD/DVD, 3 HDs or any combination limited to a total of 4. Additionally, most current PCs have 2 SATA connection points. If for some reason all are occupied and hence your post "no available slot", you may want to consider using an external storage device attached via any USB port of your PC.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
