To do that:
1. Click Start button
2. Click Run
3. Type CMD
4. Type "chkdsk/ f" at the command prompt




CHKDSK Starts when Windows restarts from an improper shutdown.


Chkdsk is part of Windows - it is a utility to analyse and fix HD errors.

You can click on the start button and just type "cmd" into the search box (without quotes).

You can also find it in the start menu under "all programs" then in "accessories."

if your having a blue screen error. Try to load your operating system CD and perform a CHK DSK by repeatedly press F8 on the pc, then boot to safe mode with command prompt..

Sounds like a virus. You might have to erase your hard drive and reinstall windows. If you have a boot disk that came with your computer, it will reinstall the entire system as it was when you bought it. You will need to save any files you want to keep first on a separate drive or burn to CD before you do it though.

Another option is to run check disk. Here is the instructions:

open run type cmd type chkdsk c:

If you have a card reader on your computer, insert the card, take note of the drive letter windows gives your card, then go to:
Start > Run > type "cmd" without the quotes, hit enter.
When the command window comes up, type "chkdsk y: /f" without quotes, and replace 'y' with your card's drive letter.
