We have a Kenmore electric range. The broiler started on its own and would not turn off except at breaker. Will the oven work without the broiler element?

You could use the oven without the broiler. It is customary that the oven will use the broil element to even out the heat in the oven for better baking but you could use if. it just may not bake evenly. There could be two things that is causing the broil element to stay energized. the control is not shutting down or there is a short to ground in the broil element. Have the broil element tested, it could just need replacing. If it is in the control that is a bigger problem.

SOURCE: Heating Elements for oven and broiler do not heat

There is four crimp connectors on the inside at the element. They can go open circuit. I would check them. There is an interna thermal fuse, when the element blows that usually goes too. Good luck

SOURCE: kenmore electric range - oven temp low and takes forever to heat

if lower element tests open with continuity meter then it for sure is bad. i would also check the wire ends that connect to the element and/or the control board, they could have loosened allowing a bad connection and low voltage to elementor burnt off.. most ovens do not use the broil element at all during the bake cycle, only during the broil cycle.. some however do utilize the broil element during baking, but at a lower wattage or something..
best of luck,

To be certain the elements are o/k you need to test them with a meter. I suspect one of them has failed.
You normally cannot always tell if they are o/k simply by looking at them.
Hope this helps.

The broiler in my Kenmore Electric Range does not work.

Almost certainly a burned out element, so test with a multimeter after turning off the power.

Could also be;

Burned out connectors onto the element.
Fuse if it has them.
Switch control. (unlikely)

Kenmore oven will not turn off

yes sounds like your bake/broiler relay is sticking closed. this could possibly be a $400.00 repair. look in your owners manuel sometimes they give extended warrenties in there. so all you would be responible for is the labor. let me know how it goes.

Kenmore Electric Range both oven and broiler stop working

Check the breaker first, then the wiring in the back from the receptacle to the oven. Check to see if the wires in the plug are secure. Then look in the back side of the oven and you will find the wires attached to a connection box. This is where you should find your problem. If not here, your board could be bad. The replacement board is not that expensive. I really think the wiring is the problem since you have neither the top nor the oven working.

Kenmore electrical oven

Trying to better define the problem....

Do you have any cuts, holes or "shorting" or tin-foil/aluminum around your bottom bake heat-element? If so, you may need to replace the baking Heat Element. (Ensure you do not use aluminum foil around your heat element to prevent your oven from getting dirty)

To replace your baking heat element, with power off; remove 2 screws securing the bake element. Slightly tug and pull towards you for about 3 inches or so and disconnect the connecting wires at each end. Then completely remove the heat element and install new in reverse manner. Whats' you're model number?
