Take cartridges out of the printer, inside cartridge case if you look inside, in the back-middle part of it, you'll see black plastic. Take some swabs and wet them in alcohol, with it try to clean inside of the plastic.

My father received the "replace ink cartridge" message on his Epson NX400. He replaced the black cartridge and now it says to replace "cartridges" (s). He didn't replace anymore because he didn't have...

Epson printer only work if there are all ink tank installed, and one of them not reach zero ink level (ink out in program). After replacing black ink, may be the other ink tanks reach zero level, so message to replace ink tank appear again. You can use the used ink tank (by refilling) if you don't reset ink level counter. Better you use the CISS ink tank (with or without outside bottle), that have autoreset function.

Can't find tool box to check ink level - HP 6310 using Vista 2007

doesnt matter most printers have a feature of their own to check ink levels.
press the setup button on the printer and scroll down(with the arrow buttons) till you get tools press ok and now scroll through until you get ink level and select it by pressing the ok button, walla you should have your ink levels in front of you.

Now about the hp solution centre/hp director icon on your desktop (if you have installed the software).
Click on settings and click on printer toolbox and now check your estimated ink levels it will show the ink levels of the printer cartridges.
