If your shutter curtain doesnt close, it may be out of Sync with the shutter button. My Minolta x700 had this problem. My camera guy fixed it for me with a couple of tinker moves. Contact your nearest camera repair shop (if available) and ask how much it would be to fix the Sync between depressing the shutter button and the curtain. it may just be some grime that has it stuck.

Shutter does not operate.

hiwhen you say shutter does not operate, it mean too general to answer. could you provide more detail?I will give how does shutter work. First, you press shutter button, it will activate two switchs (one is focus and meter and the other is release ) Second, mirror goes up and opening shutter curtain move up. Third, closing shutter curtain down and mirror down and picture come out. Of course there is also aperture control unit sequence.

Just had the shutter release fixed on my d40x. Now I have overexposure problems on occasions and also the flash unit does not go down to its original place. Could they have messed up with the calibrating...

hiwould you tell me about that you repair shutter release? Was it shutter release button itself or the shutter sequence all thing like you pushing shutter button and mirror goes up and shutter curtain open/close and you get a picture. etc.. Now you flash defuser unit doesn't stay and sometime overexposure means either meter circuitry fail or meter sensor is out of position. I suspect more like second which the unit had impact and the meter sensor become out of place.

I have a minolta x-300s film camera, the diaphragm control lever ( the lever at the bottom when the lense is removed that controls the mirror) is stuck to the left (meaning the mirror is up or away) when i...

Try this before spending money on anything:
Open the camera front and back: ie, take off the lens, open the back door.
With clean hands, put fingers in from both front and back.
VERY GENTLY slide the shutter curtain to the side, as it would do if the shutter release was working.

In my case, when I let go of the curtain, the whole situation resolved itself, the mirror went back up into position and the winder and release both started working again.

The shutter is stuck...all I see is black

Your second curtain is not releasing the mirror to come down.
This happens with weak 2nd shutter curtain tension.
If the wind lever is stuck and the mirror does not come down then the mirror tension spring came off.

Cannot see through view finder

mirror locked up? if so, the shutter curtain may not have traveled fully. gently push the curtain to the left until the mirror returns.
or the locking mechanism in the mirror box is not working. if so the camera must be disassembled to remove the mirror box for repair.
in either case the camera should be repaired and adjusted by a camera repair person. there are no new parts for this model Pentax so the repair could be expensive. get an estimate first.
i am assuming the lens cap is off.

Shutter curtain dont reset mirror in certain speeds

wwinters81

your K1000 needs a clean, lube and adjust. ( CLA ) the shutter must be repaired and calibrated. not a hard job, but a special calibration instrument must be used to calibrate all shutter speeds.
slamming the camera just makes things worse, you could brake the meter. take or send your K1000 to a camera repair shop and get an estimate for a CLA.
there are no new parts available, so if the camera requires parts the shop should state good used parts only.

Mirror lockup for minolta XG-1

Sounds like the shutter lubrication has dried out causing the closing curtain to stick. DO NOT try spraying an oil into the camera to try and fix this, it will cause more problems and could destroy the circuit board. I would recommend sending the camera to a shop specializing in the overhaul of older cameras. You might try www.united-camera.com They have been repairing cameras since the fifties and still repair the XG series cameras

Mirror lock up

carefully push the shutter curtain to the rewind side. If you look at the camera from the front with the lens off, push the cloth curtain to the right

Picture nearly all black

Lets see if the shutter curtains are opening properly : set to B and open the film back of the camera. Now release shutter and see if the first s. curtain has opened nicely and swiftly. Then release the second s. curtain and again see if you get proper closing of the curtain. If the shutter curtains ( usually just one misbehaves ) is slow to close then the shutter unit needs looking at . ( btw no point pouring liquids like benzine etc. into the shutter curtain are ... will make things worse ).
