Power cord Cord is just all knotted a twisted, i bought a rubber cord and just want to replace the original. I have removed all the screws from the rear of the machine and it still doesn't want to come apart and i dont want to force it. any help is appreciated.

If you're talking about the cord that you pull out from the reel located at the rear of the machine, you'll have to take the top cover off first. Usually two philips head screws located under rear exhaust cover and one maybe two near the front end. Once that is removed, there will be two more philips screws, one on each side of the top rear of the machine and one on the bottom. Remove all three of them, pull about a foot of cord off of the reel and get it to catch, the using the heel of your right hand, hit the very back of the machine, (the rubber bumper part) on the top with a motion pulling toward the back. This may take a couple of tries if you're not used to removing this part, but one or two swipes should eventually loosen the rear cover. Once it is loosened you may carefully pull it out of the back end of the machine and take off the two wire connections. This will free up the cordwinder assy. so you can take it to a spot where you have some room to work. Now lay the assembly on it's back and take the four screws, one from each corner of the rear cover, out and lay them aside. Thread the cord plug through the opening and wind the free cord back onto the reel, allowing the spring to pull it slowly out of your hand and then wrap the plug end around and around the reel till the spring is unwound, then you can remove the "C" clip from the center post, sometimes hidden under a cardboard washer. With the clip removed you can gently pull the cord reel up and off the post, carefully bringing the rewind spring up and off it's post as well. If you've tested the cord and are sure that it's your problem then you can cut the remainder of the cord from the reel and throw it away. The reel is easier to deal with without the cord on it. Turn the reel over so the back cover is exposed, there should be three screws that can be removed so you can take the connections loose from the posts inside and make ready for the new cord. Once you've attached the new cord and tied your strain relief knot, like the one you removed, you're ready to wrap the cord onto the reel and just reverse the procedure. When you get ready to put the loaded reel back into the cordwinder body, just before you put the cover on, wrap the plug end around the reel three times. This loads the spring so that it will pull the cord completely back into the unit. And it doesn't hurt to drop a spot of oil onto the top of the post for the spring.

1 Unplug the vacuum and remove all accessories such as extensions and brushes. Open the vacuum's outer casing to get at the end of the power cord. Exactly how you will do this depends on the model of vacuum. Generally it simply involves the removal of two to three Phillips-head screws.
2 Follow the power cord to the two connections at the vacuum's motor. Unfasten any clips or holding bracket and disconnect the cord from the motor. Sometimes this can be accomplished by unscrewing two connection screws, other times the cord is soldered directly to the motor. If this is the case use wire cutters and cut the cord about 4 inches from the motor to give room for splicing on a new cord.
3 Insert the new power cord into the vacuum. Follow the exact same path as the old one. If there were any brackets or clips that held the old cord in place inside the vacuum or out use them on the new cord.
4 Tie a knot in the cord on the inside of the vacuum casing so that it will not accidentally be pulled out of the motor once it is in use.
5 Connect the new cord to the motor in the same fashion as the old one. With wire strippers take off about 1 inch of insulation from the new cord to expose the two wires. Either wrap them around the connection posts and re-screw, or twist the new cord wires around the 4-inch remnants of the old cord and seal all exposed wire and connections with electrical tape.
6 Replace the vacuum's casing in reverse order from how you removed it. Plug in the vacuum to test.

While it doesn't require a collection bag, a Dyson-brand vacuum cleaner can still suffer the problems of wear and tear that are prone to any vacuum cleaner--for example, a frayed power cord. If the power cord of your Dyson vacuum cleaner has become frayed, change it immediately to avoid a dangerous electrical mishap. You will need a replacement cord from an electronics service center, along with a few common household tools. You do not need electrical skills to complete the task.
Follow this steps on how to replaced the power cord assembly:

1 Unplug the Dyson vacuum cleaner's power plug from the wall outlet. Press the button on the top front of the plastic collection cover. Lift the cover off the front of the vacuum cleaner and place it aside.

2 Trace the power cord to where it enters the back bottom of the vacuum cleaner. Remove the screws from the panel surrounding the power cord with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the panel. Aim the beam of a flashlight inside the compartment so that you can see where the wires at the end of the power cord wrap around two screws on the motor assembly. Loosen these screws with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

3 Pull the power cord out of the compartment and dispose of it properly. Strip a 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the two wires of the replacement power cord. Run the wires into the compartment along the path of the original power cord--pushing the wires into the grooves inside the compartment.

4 Tie a knot on the cord on the inside of the compartment to prevent the cord from being pulled out.

5 Wrap the exposed end of each wire of the power cord around the loosened screws. Tighten the screws. Replace the panel and reattach the screws. Stand the vacuum cleaner right side up. Place the bottom of the plastic collection cover into the bottom front slot on the vacuum cleaner. Push the cover back on the front of the vacuum cleaner.

This procedure worked for replacing the cord on my Hoover U6425-900. At a minimum, you will need a number 2 Phillips screwdriver, wire cutter, and two electrical wire nuts and electrical tape. Remove the accessory tools from the storage compartment. Remove two screws, these are recessed. Remove the cover from the bag compartment, remove two screws located at top corners of bag compartment. You may have to open the side filter door but the accessory tool storage compartment should be free at this point and can be removed. You should see the power cord and related wiring. If you have a digital camera you could take a photo at this point in case you need a point of reference. Make note of the power cord strain relief routing and length of wire. Too much wire will make reattaching the storage compartment difficult and the routing prevents the cord from being pulled out.
On my model the wiring colors were purple, orange and white. My replacement cord had black and white wires. The orange wire will not be involved in cord replacement. Using the wire cutters clip the purple wire about three inches back from the existing terminal. If present, clip the two nylon wire ties and discard. The white wire will have a crimped on wire connector. Clip the white wire about three inches back from the existing wire connector. The old power cord can be removed by pulling it out from the rear, it should just slide out of the rubber insulating boot. If not use a set of pliers and crimp the boot from the wiring side and push it outside the vacuum housing. If you have to do this make sure you slip the boot over the replacement cord before you insert the new cord back into the vacuum housing. Remove about a half inch of insulation from the purple and white wires and from your replacement cord unless it was supplied with insulation already removed. Use new wire nuts and connect the white wires. Use the other wire nut and connect the purple wire to the remaining new power cord wire. Use some electrical tape and wrap the nuts to the wires a couple of times so they won't loosen. Make sure you route the power cord around the posts as this is the strain relief and prevents the cord from being pulled out. Reassemble and test.

In order to access the cord on the Miele S183 upright, you'll need to first remove the handle from the vacuum cleaner. There is a large screw that holds the handle in place that is located under neath of the lower cord wrap hook. Simply remove this screw, and slide the off the vacuum by pushing the handle towards the back of the machine.

Once you have the handle removed, now ope the bag door as if you were going to replace the vacuum bag. You'll see two screws directly above where the bag fits inside of the machine. These two screws will open up the switch and cord housing and give you access to the electrical cord.

You'll see that there are two screws that secure the cord as it comes into the vacuum from the back. Remove both of these screws so that the cord is no longer secured. I think the easiest way to replace this cord is to simply cut the cord (MAKE SURE THE VACUUM IS UNPLUGGED) so that there is about 4-5 inches of the cord jacket (rubber coating around the cord) remaining. You may now just pull this cord jacket off of the cord, along with the paper insulation so you have two bare wires of the old cord. Now take your new cord and push it into the back of the vacuum so that it comes through the switch housing. Instead of having to re-secure the cord with the two screws, I've found that if you tie a small knot in the cord, this works just as well at preventing the cord from pulling through the back of the vacuum.

Simply strip the wires that are left from the old cord, and simply wire nut the new cord after tying a knot (or re-securing it with the two screws), and reassemble the vacuum cleaner. Test the vacuum only after putting the switch housing cover back into place.

1 screw in the front, two in the blower port. take them out and the top bezel comes off. one screw in the bottom and two on the top. need a flat blade screw driver to pry out the cord reel. 4 screws holds the sheild of the reel. take them out and there is a snap ring that hold the reel on the shaft. the reel assembly and drum spring comes out at the same time. 3 screws on the bottom of the reel holding a metal plate and there is also snap ring hold the spring on the metal plate take that off and will expose the cord connection. unhook the the cord and untie the knot and replace the cord and reverse the process

You must flip the Tri Star upside down to reveal hidden body screws. Generally 2 at back near the wheels and one at front below the cord retainer.
Once removed the body will separate at the bumper. Before removing the motor , note the position of the carbon brushes relative to the body housing. They will be offset allowing the housing to close without striking the motor.
This is a metal vac body, your connects must be clean and should be taped after using twist terminals as a precaution. Your cord will go first to the switch, then power runs from the switch to one side each of the power head and motor, then from the opposite power head and motor lead back to the switch.
You should secure a knot inside the body of the vac as a strain relief so the cord cannot slip out after connecting

Gently pull on the rubber gasket that seals the water tank to the canister. Although there are more screws under there - they aren't necessary to remove only to replace your cord. It is the gasket that is holding the motor flange and the plastic housing together that hinders your progress. If you're gentle about pulling off the gasket and it's in good enough shape, you can usually put it back on with some rubber cement (the same thing it is originally attached with) when you're finished. If the gasket breaks, it would have to be replaced - but not a big deal - they aren't really very expensive.

Remove the bag emptor, then there is one screw ro remove where the cord goes into the side of the vac. Remove that cord cover, pull the cord end out, then replace it with a new cord. Put it back together again. The screw will either be a phillips head or a torx.
