I have a Studio SK-303 - the zig-zag dial is

I have a Studio SK-303 - the zig-zag dial of the pattern panel is frozen - I need to know how to get the pattern panel on the top of the machine off - I have removed 4 screws - but the top won't budge. The other 2 dials work. Do you have a SERVICE MANUAL for the Studio SK-303? Thanks.

    Hi, Pat Merkel here.

You won't believe this "solution" to my frozen dial - I finally sold the SK-303 to a lady who said she does not mind the frozen dial - she would try to fix it - but, lo and behold! She emailed me after receiving my lovely machine and said that the jostling that the machine received during shipping loosened the dial and it now works fine! Needless to say she loves this machine a lot. All's well that ends well, eh?

The solution was done by accident - I sold my SK-303 machine and the frozen zig-zag dial was "unfrozen" by the josteling of the shipping journey to my client. Go figure, eh?

Did you find the answer to your question? I have an extra manual for the Studio 303 if that would help you.

There is a thin copper piece on the under side of the bed on the right, that the manual says to remove. Use needle nose pliers-it may be hard to pull. As soon as I removed it, the pattern shift moved freely.

Zig zag not working on Elna Carina seeing machine

If the zig zag function on your Elna Carina sewing machine is not working, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. Incorrect stitch selector: Make sure you have selected the correct stitch on your machine. Double check that you have selected the zig zag stitch, and not accidentally switched to another stitch.
  2. Incorrect stitch width: The stitch width knob on your machine controls the width of the zig zag stitch. Make sure that the stitch width is not set to zero, as this would prevent the zig zag function from working. Adjust the stitch width to the desired size.
  3. Tension issues: If the thread tension is too tight or too loose, it can affect the zig zag stitch. Check your thread tension to make sure it is set correctly.
  4. Clogged machine: Dust, lint, and debris can accumulate inside your sewing machine and affect its performance. Clean your machine thoroughly, including the bobbin area and the feed dogs.
If none of these solutions work, it may be necessary to have your machine serviced by a professional.

Please how do I work a zig zag pattern on my manual operated singer sewing machine

Hello, Annelien -

Unless your manually operated sewing machine has switches to realign your sewing machine needle to make zig zag stitching, as is demonstrated in this YouTube video (starting at around 6:30 minutes in the video):
https://www.fearlessmakers.com/manual-sewing-machine-works/
you cannot. Note: The machine in the video is a Necchi brand sewing machine.

Without knowing the model number of your manually operated Singer sewing machine, I cannot try to find operating instructions for it to determine if your machine has zig zag stitching potential.

Best wishes.

Singer sewing machine

From the pattern selector (the bigger dial), select the zig-zag stitch. Then, using the stitch length dial (the smaller dial), adjust the stitch length. The closer your stitch length is to "0", the more dense will your zig-zag stitch be.

Will need more info to help you. Is the white dot on the zig-zag dial still at the top? If not you will NEED (no way around it) a zig-zag dial rebluild. Most pfaff repair shops do not know how to do this repair, will need to find a 1222 expert.
This is my gess with what you have told me.
Hope this helps

Only does zig zag stitches, no straight stitches,

make sure the pattern selector is set for straight stitch first. If it is set correct then the machine may be "stuck" is zig zag mode. May need to be de greased and then re lubricated.

Need to know how to the zig zag stitch on the 132 featherweight machinge by singer.

By turning the bottom dial on the righthand side of the machine, you can change type of stitch. For zig zag, you need to set it to B (seen on the front of the machine). You can adjust the width of the zig zag using the same dial.

How do i make a buttonhole on this machine?

I do not have a buttonhole foot, but I can tell you how I do it with the zig zag foot on the Singer 132Q machine.

1. Mark the spacing and size for the buttonholes with chalk or marking paper. This consists of a straight line with a perpendicular line at the top and bottom that lets you know how big to make the hole. There is probably a pattern piece to let you know what the spacing should be, and you can get the size of the hole for the top and bottom line by laying the button you are going to use on top of the line you draw with the pattern.

2. Make sure the bobbin has plenty of thread.

3. Put the zig zag foot on the machine.

4. Set the stitch size to 1 or maybe a little less. You want a tight stitch to hold the hole together.

5. Start at the top of the buttonhole with the perpendicular line barely visible in the zig zag foot. Think of it as placing the "T" made by the mark in the "T" made by the opening in the zig zag foot.

6. Set the needle pattern to #1 of the buttonhole pattern (2nd from the top). Make sure it is toward the top of the number to insure you get a wide zig zag stitch. If you are getting a narrow stitch, you may have to fiddle with it, but it will work. Stitch 4-6 times making sure the stitch is wide, and end on the left side of the stitch.

7. Change the needle pattern to #2 of the buttonhole pattern and zig zag stitch down to the bottom mark. Do not pull the fabric or you will stretch the stitch. Make sure your last stitch is on the left hand side.

8. Change the needle pattern to #3 of the buttonhole pattern (same as #1), and zig zag stitch 4-6 times ending on the right side this time. Make sure the stitches are wide.

9. Change the needle pattern to #4 of the buttonhole pattern and straight stitch back to the top mark. Be prepared to hand roll the needle the last few stitches to make sure you do not pass the top stitches you have made.

10. Change the needle pattern to #5 of the buttonhole pattern and zig zag stitch back to the bottom mark. Hand roll the last few stitches and end on the left side.

11. Raise the foot and remove the fabric. You are now ready proceed to the next buttonhole or cut the buttonhole open with a small pair of scissors or a seam ripper. Make sure you do not cut any of your stitches.

Make sure you practice on some scrap fabric of the same thickness (2 layers of fabric plus pellon) to make sure you have the size right before you sew the buttonholes on the garment.

GOOD LUCK.
