My camera is a Canon Powershot SX170IS and i got this about 3 months ago. Lately it's been working fine but all of a sudden when i turned on my camera the screen was a light purple. I checked and all settings were set as auto or normal . When i take a picture with or without flash the color is normal (not purple) When i take a video it is purple and i tried to re-set it but no luck. Help ?
I would take it back to where you bought it, it should still be under warranty. Sounds like a bad rear image sensor. If your really handy with tools, you can find how to repair it on youtube. But I would take it back to the seller. Now if you bought it used, I would try United Camera. I have used United Camera before and found them to be really good.

Hiya!
Opps! But i believe that i just really messed up my camera because i was looking on the web and one person suggested that i just blow or wipe the lense. When i blew on it the whole screen turned blurry! Now my screen is blurry and purple. Well that's not good. It also doesn't show "AF Frame Size" i'm not sure if it showed before, but it's not showing up now. I don't know if thats a "sign" or not. Would it be free to repair? Or must i pay to get it professionally checked out and fixed?

SOURCE: Black Screen When Open, but the Picture quality is fine
in the lower right hand corner there is a button that has disp. on it just click that during picture taking mode and it will return to normal
SOURCE: canon a530 powershot won't snap a picture
sounds like the flash isn't charging, as the flash icon flashes while the flash is charging before letting you take the photo. Put it in "P" and disable the flash and see if it'll let you take a photo. G>
SOURCE: Blank black screen for my canon powershot S1 IS digital camera
This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
