This camera is powered by a 6-volt 2CR5 battery. Check the battery, look at the camera battery condition indicator. If it is all black the battery is fully charged. If it does not show all black or partially black remove the battery and test it with a battery tester. If the battery checks good then look inside the battery compartment making sure it is clean without any battery leakage. Again, if the battery and battery compartment are clean as they should be then it may need a CLA.

When taking a picture the film does not advance. It must be shut off and turned back on again. After developing those pictures, the top half of the picture is black indicating that the film is not...

if the film drive cogs are all ok then its the film advance drive gears on the motor drive striped or slipping,,you could test this by opening the camera and genteelly holding the film advance cogs with your finger and pressing the shutter if the film advance cogs stop turning then the drive gears are slipping or striped? this could be caused by the after load censer in the camera not censing the end of film roll and trying to get another frame out of it? like it read a 24ex as a 36ex but the censor faled to stop the motor drive winding on and that striped the gears

Nikon F100 does not advance film to start of roll,

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

Blinking 0 on my minolta maxxum 5 after I loaded the film. I cant take any pics.

It did not load your film. open the back, be sure you have the film pulled across the opening to the far side of the take-up spool, and close the back again. It should make noise as it winds the film, then number 1 should appear in the top window. If it does not make noise and advance film, you likely need the film advance motor replaced. Every time you close the back, it will try to advance film.
The motor itself can die and those plastic gears can break teeth. If repositioning the film does not work, your maxxum needs a trip to the repair shop.

When trying to load the film in my Nikon N4004, the film won't advance.

most likely cause?
Batteries weak.
film not pulled out far enough for sensor to pick up
Film advance motor worn out
plastic gears stripped

If you're sure it is not the first two, it needs repair.

No film advance.

Hello drummer 37,   As I recall, this was a peculiar problem with all 35mm film cameras. Your canera could have; a bad battery or batteries, a short to the film advance motor, or corrosion, or bad gears to the film advance motors, or end of film, etc. You would need to open your camera in a darkroom bag and remove any film inside. If no film inside the camera, then do a circuit check from batteries to every electronic component and motor using battery power or bench check the camera's motors by bypassing the batteries with an AC/DC benchtop power supply. Wow - really expensive and time-consuming = complete stripdown and repair. Depending on the camera make, it would be your decision whether to compare repair price to camera value. If it is no longer in production meaning parts need to be cannabalized from another old non-working camera, the cost of repair would exceed the value of the camera. Look for another good used model or move on to a digital SLR camera as your tool.
