HP 4700 - tones dropping in on transfer kit w/ new toners

When this first appeared - the cyan toner started dropping 'dots/spots" on the pages on the right hand side, then the magenta, then yellow and finally black.  we replaced all 4 toners, the transfer kit and the fuser.  after 4 days of printing - the brand new cyan has started doing the same thing.   what else could be wrong??  any other parts that could be or needed to be changed out.?

Thanks!

I am having the same issue but only with cyan. Any ideas from anybody?

I have the same issues that started with Cyan spots and then Magenta. I replaced the Magenta cartridge and the magenta spots stopped. Looks to be about 1.5" apart all the way down the left side of the page. Should be about a 1/2" roller. I would suspect a transfer roller. Does the transfer roller in the 4700 transfer the image to the belt?

Argh! I'm having this problem with cyan too. I installed a new print cartridge a few days ago and it started dropping spots on the left hand side. One near the top, one in the middle and one near the bottom. Has anyone figured out what's wrong?

I have the same problem with the Cyan cartridge. The machine is only about 28,000 copies, but I've had the problem since it was only a few weeks old. I waited until the cyan toner cartridge was empty and then followed the same advice you see here - to buy a new cartridge, but it
did not solve the problem. I notice that the people who were so certain it was the cartridge are now absent. Let's all face it; it's the machine. I should have insisted on another one when it was still in warranty but
I just decided NEVER to buy another HP printer rather than go through
the disruption of reinstalling. I accept the fact that I have a very expensive, and very heavy  piece of junk.

High Voltage Board. The high voltage board is responsible for delivering the static charges which perform two functions within most laser printers: 1) Causes the toner to move from the drum surface to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt(ITB). 2) Causes the toner to move from the surface of the ITB to the paper.

In the CLJ 4700, there is an Electrostatic Transfer Belt instead of an Intermediate Transfer Belt. This simplifies the process by one step, because with an ETB, the paper rides on the belt, instead of having a separate transport path. HVB is still responsible for the colors transferring on to the paper from each drum, and it's literally the only thing left which can still cause copy quality issues if you've already replaced all four drums, the belt, and the fuser.

Consistent dots down print

Try to print clean page ,
Print a cleaning page During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer and can cause print quality issues such as toner specks or spatter, smears, streaks, lines or repeating marks. Follow these steps to clean the printer's paper path.
  1. Load copier-grade paper (not bond, heavy, or rough paper).
  2. On the printer's control panel, touch the Menu button.
  3. Touch Configure Device .
  4. Touch Print Quality .
  5. Touch Process Cleaning Page .
A Cleaning message appears on the printer control panel display while the cleaning is taking place. The cleaning process takes a few minutes to complete. Do not turn the printer off until the cleaning process has finished. A page will be printed when the task is complete. Discard the page. You might need to repeat the cleaning process to thoroughly clean the printer. Print a few more pages to see if the problem is resolved.

Excess cyan toner is on electrostatic transfer sheet even after wiping it. All black and white pages are printed with cyan background.I am even using original cartridges.

Since you have Cyan toner in places where it should not be then the only possible cause is a defective Cyan Toner cartridge. I worked on one just last week where the customer complained about Magenta toner on their prints. I also noticed Magenta toner on the Transfer Belt just as you see Cyan toner on the Transfer Belt. I replaced the Magenta Toner Cartridge and everything cleared up nicely. The Transfer Belt Unit can also cause similar problems but it would not be ONLY one color like Cyan. It would be a mixture of all colors. My bet is replace the Cyan toner and you will be fine. If you have an old empty one just shake it up a bit and try it as well. This might allow you to verify before buying a new cartridge.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

How do i reset the transfer kit for HP LJ 4700

with the power on, press the down arrow button until the display reads " Configure Device" menu. Press the Select button and using the down arrow button, scroll through this menu until the display reads "Resets" and press the Select Button. Then press the down arrow button again until the screen reads "Reset Supplies" and press Select button. Once you get to this menu this is where you can reset the fuser and the Transfer belt count

Toner specks along the edge of the page

Rev. Gregory.
Its looks like you have a small pinhole, or divot, on a imaging conponent that is common to all four toner cartridges. Remove the drum unit from the prtr and keeping the green handle close to you pull back the shutter which covers the drum, and look for spots of toner at the either end. If you hold the page with the spots on it, with the leading edge centered and touching the drum, it will give you some idea where the edgeis relative to the end of the drum. If you can't see any corresponding spots on the drum surface.
Put the drum unit back into the prtr and allow the prtr to restart, then switch off and remove drum, this will have turned the drum to a new position, and should show any defects. Only expose the uncovered drum to light for a minute at a time, and avoid touching the surface.
Let me know what you find.
Cheers

Tiny dots about 1 inch apart down the side of page

Again, this was actually HP Laserjet 3800. Problem solved by chatting with HP, and them having me go into a diagnosis mode that disabled cartridge check. Then, I removed the cyan cartridge, the dots went away. They then had me put the black into the cyan slot, and not dots appeared. I had backup toner on hand, swapped in a new cyan and magenta, and all was good. HP agreed to replace the cartridges.

11 blue dots print out down the left hand side of documents

It's probably the toner cartridge again. See if you can spot defects at the cyan drum unit that matches the marks on your printout.

Pages full of toner / toner streaking

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)
