When the Garmin shows the picture of a computer, it means that the Nuvi is in mass storage mode. This mode is used to load software and map updates to the Nuvi and will usually go into this mode when connected to a computer or improper USB cable.
If this is occurring when it is connected to the vehicle power cable, chances are that the vehicle power cable is the wrong one.

The proper vehicle power cables for the Garmin nuvi 260 are part numbers 010-10723-06 or 010-11478-03.
The use of improper cables will cause the nuvi to go into mass storage.

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.

This place has the battery and tools come with it!. its super easy and way cheaper than buying a new garmin. 2 screws and unplug the old battery and plug in the new. I did mine and I never messed with the internals before.

Go to the Garmin web site & register and that will allow you to upgrade the maps to current. You will also need to use a USB cable and install the software for your Garmin before you can do so.
