Leaking icemaker Ice maker leaks water instead of filling tray where ice cubes form. Cannot see where leak is occurring. I can get ice cubes if I move bar to "ON" position and check freezer often, then return bar to "OFF" position before leaking starts. Freezer has wound up with huge icicles down the side three times in the last few months. My husband won't leave it off cause he wants ice cubes! He thinks some kind of seal might be worn. I still use the chilled water dispenser every day with no problems. (The fridge is 9 or 10 years old.) Any ideas?

Thanks, kmike69.  I'll show your suggestion to my husband.  If it's just a valve and he can get at it, he might be able to fix it himself.

Thank you for your comments about the cracked water line. My husband hasn't gotten around to checking out the first suggestion, so I'm still using the ice maker only occasionally. We haven't had any major icebergs forming lately (thank goodness). I'll pass your information on to him. We sure don't want to be replacing the floor!

I appreciate the help from you and the other readers.

I used my ice maker/water dispenser for a year only to find out that it had been slowly dripping.  I had to refinish all my wood floor.  Since then it's leaked 2 more times and had to redo the floors AGAIN!  I no longer use the ice maker/water dispenser.  :-(  My sister has the same exact same refrigerator and has had the same problem.  I'm wondering if they've been recalled.

When I was replacing plastic tubing in my fridges water line, I noticed that these tubes, when coming out of the valve assembly, take a sharp turn. they may be bending enough to cause leaks in the connection to the valve assy. could be they need to be an inch or two longer so as not to take that sharp bend. Just a guess.

  • Wrol-Up Shutter repairs

The plastic tubing sits alongside the compressor body. Heat from the compressor may be aging this tubing, causing it to be brittle and crack.

  • Wrol-Up Shutter repairs

Might not hurt to put some insulation between the tubing and the compressor.

I had the same with the water line; plastic tubing too close to the compressor for too long making it brittle. It finally gave way and water was slowly leaking out whenever I used the water dispenser. You can buy 1/4" plastic tubing kit and 1/4" to 1/4" quick connector at Home Depot or Lowe's. Turn off water supply at wall valve (hopefully you have one). The plastic tubing pulls out (slowly) from the valve (you may have to unscrew valve mount and position it for repair). Cut out the leaky section. Push the new piece of adequate size tubing in slowly, put the quick connector in line (push tube in slowly to both ends of quick connector). turn water supply vavle at wall back on. Check for leaks before pushing fridge back into position.

You may want to check that your water line isn't cracked.

Ours cracked and now we need to replace our floor. The water line is too close to the compressor which heats the plastic tubing and makes it brittle. Our refrigerator is 9 years old. Model #TPX24BRYFBB

Good luck

Ice maker overfills the ice tray, ejecting large block of ice instead of individual cubes.

What is your model number? Sounds like you may need a new icemaker. Sometimes when the icemaker motor goes bad it causes the icemaker to keep filling even though it hasn't kicked out the ice in there. Also, are you sure there isn't 2 valves on the refrigerator?

Water leaking from Icemaker fill tube near the back wall

It probably is not the water valve. More likely it is the ice maker itself. Nothing else in the machine controls the flow of water to the ice maker except the ice maker itself. It is recommended that both the ice maker and the water valve needs to be replaced when trouble such as this.

JSI-26 icemaker leaking water

You're ice maker is located on the left hand side of the freezer, if I'm correct.
Look to the back of the freezer slightly above the ice maker and you will see what they call the fill tube. Chances are ice has formed inside and when the ice maker goes to fill water sprays instead of flows out. In some models you can take the fill tube out from the back by removing two screws that hold it in, located at the upper right side if your behind it, and some you may have to pull out from inside.

Water is leaking out of ice maker and freezing up where cubes are

Sounds like water valve is not closing all the way after the icemaker calls for water. This is because sediment in water builds up on valve seat therefore letting water pass through. Suggest replacing fill valve. Crescent shaped ice....ice maker on needs 4 ounces to fill icemaker, so any more than that will spill out.

Icemaker not working.

I just had the same problem. I found a small amount of ice formed under the water inlet point in the ice maker tray. This ice prevented the rotation of the "ice cube ejection fingers" so it couldn't cycle and re-fill. I used a hair dryer to melt this ice and the fingers immediately began rotating. Once they cycled, the tray filled with water as it should. All seems well now.

Kenmore refer #70162990 ice maker leaking into storage tray

Please confirm you have given the complete model number.

If the icemaker has a bail wire to control how much ice is in the bin, there is a fill switch inside the front cover of the ice maker which allows you to increase or decrease the amount of fill.

You may also have a cracked or corroded ice mold. Check by filling the icemaker with water manually, and watching to see if it drips once the initial overfill stops dripping. This would also be indicated by the ice cubes being smaller than usual.

Sub-Zero 632 Ice Maker Leaking into Ice Bucket

Ice Maker is overflowing and leaking into the ice bucket: There are several things to check for.
Go for the easy stuff first, make sure the icemaker is level, some of the plastic liner fridge's will move and allow the icemaker to tilt over and leak. Other troublemakers..... the fill valve
staying on and over filling the icemaker..... the finish sometimes comes off the icemaker body and all the ice cubes don't come out. This will allow the new water to fill on top of an icemaker
that still has a ice cube or two left inside the body, if you have had trouble with black specs in your ice cubes, this may have been the beginning of your finish problem on the icemaker body.
On the module style ice makers (Whirlpool, Maytag Family, Sub Zero) the printed circuit in the
module head often wears and the contacts become too long and allow the icemaker to over fill = new ice maker or new module head.
waterfilladjustment.jpg
Older style icemakers: This gear is bad for breaking and the icemaker quits turning to eject the ice.
You can remove the front cover to see the gear.
This is a common parts breakdown of the older style icemakers

Water fill volume: The water fill adjustment screw will change the fill volumes by changing the fill time.
One half to one full turn usually ( approx ) is equal to 20cc ( 0.68oz ) to 40 cc.
The correct fill is usually 130 to 150 cc ( 4.5 to 5.0 oz ).
When a water valve is replaced the fill volumes must be re-checked!

Ice Maker Overflowing

i would recommend changing the water valves as they may be sticking or leaking now you can take the icemaker loose get a small baby bottle short the terminals to cycle water fill catch it with the bottle and see how much water it dumps should be about 4 ounces if the valve leaks will over fill the ice maker over a period of time say the valve is leaking a few drops at a time and the bail arm has the icemaker shut off because its touching ice in the bin but the water just keeps dripping down the fill tube till it runs over did you replace the whole icemaker or just the motor module

Ice maker leaking

Sometimes the frozen chunk of ice in the back of your ice tub is caused by the tub being overfilled. The ice cubes pile up so high that they come in contact with the defrost heating element in the bottom of the ice maker. This melts the already formed cubes and form a blob of ice in the rear of the tub.

If the "icicle" is forming even when the tub is relatively empty, then it is probably a leaking solenoid valve. This is an electric water valve that opens and closes according to demand. Like any valve, it has seats that eventually leak, especially in areas with hard water. This will need to be replaced. Water filters go a long way in increases the usefaul life span of the valve and will also improve the ice quality.
