Your TV probably does not have a digital tuner connected to the DTV/ANT input. Mine didn't. I had to connect the digital antenna to a digital converter box THEN go to the DTV/ANT input. Only then would it activate the DTV menu and allow me to scan for channels. If your TV worked fine with Cable TV connected to the input, it was because your signal was coming from the digital tuner in your DVR, or your cable provider was sending you an unscrambled digital signal (not likely).
I used a digital converter box I had purchased with the government $40 coupon back in 2009 but the resolution is only 480 and looks like a Monet or Renoir. Now I am shopping for a high quality tuner.

We'll try to use the Antenna you have to make this work. For the Vizio L32 TV, move the antenna cord to the "Digital ANT./ Cable" port.
Then, change your input to DTV.
Then,
Press the DIGITAL HD button on the remote until “DTV”
appears on the top right of the screen. When the MENU
button is pressed, the On-Screen Display (OSD) appears on
the PICTURE ADJUST page. Press the RIGHT arrow
button to highlight the TV selection.
This will display the DTV TUNER SETUP OSD.

Scan – Automatically scans for all of the digital TV channels
available and stores the information in memory.
Press the DOWN arrow button to highlight AUTO SCAN.
Press the OK button to activate. NOTE: This will take several
minutes to complete.

Once Auto Scan has finished, press the Exit button to return
to the previous menu. The channels should be coming in.

You may have to move the Antenna to get better reception.

I hope this help you out.

Vizio d-series 32" smart tv find channels using my antenna

On the remote, press the "MENU" button to go to the "Menu" screen, select "TV Settings" with the arrow keys, and press the "OK" button. Then go to "Device Setup" and press "OK". Go to "Input Source" and press the arrow keys until "Antenna" appears, then press "OK".

Select the "Tuner" option and press "OK". You may see an option to scan channels. Select it and press "OK". The TV will scan both analog and digital channels and can take an hour to scan all. Just wait and watch the "Found channel" count. If it does not increment, your antenna may be bad or not connected correctly.

The Vizio tuner is good enough to find over 14 digital channels with a cheap $10 flat digital antenna taped to my window.

GV42L vizio tuner

Your vizio has an internal digital tuner. When you are on air, make sure that it is set up for digital. It might say DTV. Some sets have an analog only and digital only program option in the user menu, or as a seperate input. When in doubt, check your user manual.

Why won't my new Vizio DTV work on an antenna without the digital box?

Do you have the antenna aimed correctly and the correct antenna for the distance between your location and the stations? Check antennaweb.org and tvfool.com for the directions to the stations you should be able to receive. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna and is very conservative in the station list. TVfool gives the stations you should get with various different types of antennas. Tall trees and buildings will block signal strength so consider the environment around you.

With digital signals, if you do not have enough signal strength for a given tuner, the channel will not come in. An amplifier may help you get the signal, particularly if the signal is shared to several devices. Failure of an amplifier or lightning surge protection can stop the signal from reaching the TV. A surge through the antenna can damage the tuner.

A damaged cable can also be a source of a problem. Check the outside portion of the wire as well as the interior wires. Replace any that have damaged insulation or ends.

For this TV, if you have done a channel scan with the TV set to the Input TV/DTV, and the Signal Source set to Antenna. Turn the antenna and then set the Additional Scan to On. (Menu > TV > Channels > Additional Scan.) Then do another channel scan.

If you need a copy of the manual, see: http://www.vizio.com/m220va.html#support .

The digital programming here and I can't get any channels clearly

Well, there is nothing wrong with the TV itself. The signal is too weak to get enough digital information to complete picture and sound.
You may need a better antenna for reception.

There are some long range digital antennas and antennas that will receive signals in all directions.
It's the best way I know of to solve the problem.

Toshiba 36" analog TV Tivax converter box RCA Digital Flat Amplified Antenna How do I get signals without cable?

I understand you have;
Toshiba 36" analog tv,
Tivax converter box,
RCA Digital Flat amplified antenna.

You want to get signal over the air;
Connect the antenna to the Tivax converter box.
Connect the Tivax Converter box to the input for the TV.

Turn on the antenna, Converter box and TV. You should get a menu on the tv screen. Follow the instructions and SCAN in the channels in your area by using the converter box remote.

You can see your channels by going to www.tvfool.com and entering your information.

Playing vcr causes new digital tv to lose saved channels

Vizio representative suggested connecting antenna directly to TV and not through the VCR. In doing this, we lose the ability to record on the VCR but we record elsewhere and watch downstairs. The problem is solved on losing channels. I must add that we watch and record on a Sharp digital TV upstairs and do not lose channels. I don't know why the VCR had this effect on this Vizio TV.
