Please follow these steps to run a report on your Lexmark X6170. From the printer operator panel, press Fax to enter Fax mode > press Options repeatedly until Print Reports is highlighted. From there you can print an activity report, send log, receive log and fax settings list. I hope this helps.
If you have specifically requested a "double" ring pattern for your fax from Telus, then you have the right setting, otherwise, select the Any ring pattern to avoid fax transmission failure.

Try dialing *82 and then the full fax # you are calling. AT&T sometimes has issues with caller ID functions, and I found that this caused me to be able to receive a fax, but not send one. Post back and advise whether this resolves your problem. Best, JudyP
Does it only happen going to one certain fax destination or every destination? There are some things to try on the Lexmark web site.
Go to www.lexmark.com and click Support->Technical Support. Type in 4270 in the 'Search by Model' box. Type in 'Remote fax error' in the 'Search the Knowledgebase' box. There is a topic called 'Problems Sending a Fax to Specific Fax Machines' that has some good general tips.
There are sometimes firmware updates on the Lexmark site. Those would be bug fixes for the printer itself. Maybe they would contain a fax fix.
Is there only one place that you cannot receive faxes from? If so, the problem may be on their end. If you can't receive faxes at all, you may check fax settings. Do you have anything set that requires a distinctive ring (provided by the phone company) before you can accept a fax? There are lots more fax settings. If you haven't messed with too many, you could try resetting to the defaults and see if that helps too.
I have been sending and receiving faxes for over a year on my Lexmark X6100 printer. Now whenever I try to send a fax it will say it is sending the pages but then waits for a redial. After doing the same thing a second time it will print out "remote fax error"
i have read the manual end to end and I don't think you can.
Only thing I see is this.
Customizing your settings using the Lexmark Fax Solutions
You can adjust the fax settings in the Lexmark Fax Solutions. These settings apply to the faxes you send or receive.
