My Insignia 8" Flex tablet will not take a charge even though the power cord is properly plugged into an active socket and the tablet, please help. I have tried changing out the usb cord with no luck.

Most likely yes. You will need OTG cable. You will need external hard drive with own power supply or tabled may not be sufficient to power up hard drive. It is safer to use usb stick.

If it doesn't stay on , you may have a broken battery . If you're out of warranty, somebody has to open the device and replace the logic board. The part is available on ebay. On youtube you will find a guide on how to disassemble an Insignia tablet. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there are third party Insigina Repair Services.

Probably defective tablet. Here is some good advice, return it or throw it away and spend the $200 on a google nexus 7. Insignia is one of the worst electronics manufacturers in existence. No joke.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and left plugged in while you try to turn on the tablet.

Hold down the power button (it takes a long press) until you see the INSIGNIA logo on the screen.

If it takes longer than 10 seconds and the unit hasn't turned on, the unit is not functioning properly.

If you have the protection plan, I would recomend you return it to Best Buy for a new one.
