Get a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, gently clean the laser lens and allow several minutes to dry. If there is no change the whole laser pickup assembly will need to be replaced, not cost effective to repair, cheaper to replace the player.

I have serviced a lot of portable dvd players, when the adaper shorts in the manner you describe it usually takes out the pcb board making it not cost effective to repair, far cheaper to replace the whole unit.

ur dvd players laser pickup unit or the spindle motor may be get damaged. first of check the spindile motor . just try to rotate with ur finger it should freely run for a moment. if feel tight ,first replace the same. after that, if the problem remains u have to replace the laser pickup unit.

I am pretty sure it also came with a 12V cord for car use.That's means you can use a universal one with 120v input (USA) and 9.4V 400 ma. or a little bit higher (like 1 amp or so ) for your output.Look where the plug gets into your unit and make sure the polarity is the same.

I've had similar problems with a number of my DVD players in the past. What always worked for me was to fiddle with the DVD door, i.e., press in slightly, press up or down, hold in place until DVD starts playing
