Package indicates wilter might need to be chaged once a season

You should probably follow the directions in the instruction manual, which do say how often to change it. If you wish to risk a moldy house or an unproductive filter you can use it longer than advised. I soak mine in 50% vineger 50% water for an hour to dissolve mineral deposits and kill fungus, so the wick doesn't become too clogged to operate. I believe this lets it last a few times longer, but it is a Honeywell model of filter and I don't know how that would work on your filter.

I know of no answer to this except to remove the coating manually to prevent it clogging you filter.

I am having the water turn black even with daily water changes. Also when cleaning out the filter there are black flakes. Do I need a new machine. This one is only 6 months old.

If it's still under warranty, return it for replacement or repair. You will need your Proof of Purchase to do this. Something is leaking internally and contaminating the water.

Why is my humidifier forming black percipitate in the tank? how can i remedy this

The black particles are pretty common. This is a byproduct from minerals in the water and is normal.
Just clean the tank regularly (with diluted bleach). The black particles will also collect in the steamer unit (the top blue part). Wash this out with hot water (no soap or anything) after each use. If you tap it a few times on the floor of your bathtub you'll probably see some of this black stuff come out. No worries, just rinse again with hot water.
There's no harm from the black particles.

I only used my machine for just about two weeks (only in the evenings)with a brand new filter and already the top of the filter has turned yellow/brown and brittle. Is it normal to go through a filter so...

how long the filter will last depends on your water .. if your water has a high mineral content then that is left behind as the water evaporates from the filter/wick ... the yellow brown sounds like calcium deposits .. calcium is often added to water to give it a good taste .. that may be beneficial for you but will build up on the filter .. it doesn't hurt much until it starts to clog the voids in the filter material .. as long as air gets thru then the deposits will be ok .. normally the filter should last about 3 months .. if you use distilled water (with no calcium added) then much longer .. if you have hard water then less .. there is a tablet that you can add to the water to reduce the calcium buildup .. the manufacturer of your humidifier will likely recommend that .. thats often available from hardware stores also ..

so your choices are:
1. don't worry about it until the filter becomes clogged
2. use the anti calcium tablet or something like ProTec PC-1 Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridge
3. use distilled water for really long filter life
4. plan on replacing the filter every 3 months

other types of humidifiers have other problems .. the hot water type gets calcium deposits on the heating element requiring cleaning a couple times a year, usually with vinegar or a calcium solvent .. that takes awhile..

the Ultrasonic type doesn't generally have problems with internal deposits because it blows moist air out including the calcium .. that produces a fine dust on surfaces in your house ..

of those types the filter system like yours is easier to maintain than the hot water type and doesn't leave dust behind like the ultrasonic all work better and longer if the water is pure .. distilled water doesn't cost much but you have to be careful .. read the small print .. some of it will say "calcium added" .. you don't want that .. if you use only distilled water then the filter should last the whole year ..

No Water Flow to Honeywell Enviracaire HE225A1006 Humidifier

I have same problem with no water flow on identical humidifier but was able to fix it. Removed the inlet to the solenoid valve and found (1) a small taper mesh filter inside (2) a small diameter orifice that was clogged. Cleaned the miniature filter and used a sewing needle to open the orifice and now works perfectly.

Filters can get dirty pretty quick with the use of tap water. I attached the manual for you so that you can clean it.
Personally, i replace my humidifier filter at least once every 2 months.

Good Luck.

Filter dries out

2 things could be happening.
#1. Your water has gotten harder in the last year and more deposits are getting caught on the filter. Try soaking it in water and vinegar for an hour. This should clean some of the deposits out and extend the life of your filters. Everytime it gets hard try soaking it.

#2. Your machine is running out of water before you can refill. When this happens and the filters dry out, they aren't as good afterwords.

I would advise trying to clean them with vinegar and water and making sure your machine is always full.

Good Luck.

Cool Mist Humidifier Filter Drying Out

How long are you going between filter changes?

A filter that stops wicking water up and turns orange/yellow is one full of deposits.

It sounds like you have hard water. How are you filtering this water before you use it? Distilled water is the best.

Replace the filter. They don't last forever. Mine normally last a month to a month and a half.

Good Luck
