My satalite speakers are picking up static/crackling noise, especially when playing music. Could this be related to the sub woofer electronics inside or the sat.speakers themselves? What could i check to fix problem.

What sort of computer do you have? Is it a laptop or desktop? Many
laptops have this problem and it is quite widespread in laptops. The
crackling or humming noise could be a result of interference from the
mains power signal.
If it's a laptop, try running it on battery alone (take out the mains
power cord). My laptop has this kind of noise in speakers when running
on mains electrical supply, but it goes away like magic when I run it
on battery.
A more long-term solution is to buy a 'Ground Loop Isolator' and insert
it between your computer and the speakers/earphones. They are quite
cheap and you could get it for under £10. It removes all static noise
and you'll hear crystal clear sound.

There have been problems with Dell's with the
crackling and it's in the PC, not the speakers. You can confirm whether
it's the speaker system or the PC by plugging in a headset. If it's OK
on the headset then it is the speaker system, but if you get the noise
on the headset then it's the PC.
IF it's the PC, several
things to do, (1) update the video drivers to the latest version. If no
new version is available install the version that is available. (2)
check the sound set up and make sure no "enhancements" are selected.
We've seen problems related to enhancements being enabled.
