*.pps is not a valid Win32 application

I have Powerpoint Viewer 2007 installed in my Vista 64-bit, and am able to run Powerpoint Viewed 2007 and File-open *.pps files without any problem. However, the problem I'm having is when double-clicking on *.pps files or when openning the *.pps attachments. It keeps complaining that ''*.pps is not a valid Win32 application''.
I have tried exactly the solution suggested here, but it just didn't work for me for some reason.

http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/149/1/Unable-to-open-PPS-attachments-directly-from-Windows-Mail-in-Windows-Vista.html

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The files are already associated with Powerpoint Viewer 2007. The error I'm getting is when it executes Power Viewer 2007. I only get that error when double-clicking on the *pps files; I don't get the error when running Power Viewer 2007, and then File-Open the files

Hi I am Farah, and as I wanted to download java , it came thet" " is not valid win 32 application'. What shoudl I do? Thx

It is possible that you are attempting to install a 64-bit version of Java when you have a 32-bit operating system. Check your operating and confirm this. In Vista you can find this using Start > Control Panel > System. This is similar if you have Windows 7. Here is what it looks like:

pcjanitor.jpg
If after that you, you follow these instructions from Sun (Java) to locate and install the 32-bit version.

Error: x64.exe not a valid Win32 application This article applies to:
  • Platform(s): Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003
  • Browser(s): Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla 1.4+
  • Java version(s): 6.0
SYMPTOMS

While trying to install Java a user gets an error message similar to:
' ... x64.exe not a valid Win32 application'

CAUSE

The error message is a result of trying to install a 64-bit version of Java on a 32-bit operating system.
SOLUTION

User needs to install a 32-bit version of Java software, since a 64-bit version is not compatible with their 32-bit operating system.

Follow these steps to download 32-bit Java
  1. Go to Manual download
  2. Click Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003/2008 Online.
  3. The File Download dialog box appears.
  4. Choose the folder location.
  5. (Save the file to a known location on your computer, for example, to your desktop).
  6. Click Save.
  7. Close all applications including the browser.
  8. Double-click on the saved file icon to start the installation process.

Am confused regarding what to download for simple power point viewer use when receiving e-mail with "pps" attachments. Will appreciate recommendations.

Hi,

If you wish to view Power Point (.pps) attachments you receive in your e-mail, you need to download and install the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 which you can download by clicking this link.

Also, please be careful while opening PowerPoint documents you receive in email because a lot of viruses are transmitted these days along with .pps documents. So, only open PowerPoint attchments from contacts whom you know.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa

Opening pps messages

Hi nati662992,

pps files are Microsoft PowerPoint slideshows.

Because Powerpoint is part of the Microsoft Office package, you would think that you would have to purchase Microsoft Office to view .pps files. This is not so. You can download the free PowerPoint viewer from here:

http://www.download.com/PowerPoint-Viewer-2007/3000-18483_4-10742145.html

Install that and reboot.
Then open the email again and it will automatically open with Powerpoint Viewer. Or it will ask you what program you want to open it with, and you click the PowerPoint Viewer .exe icon, and tick the 'Always open with this Program?' box.

Good Luck and Season's Greetings to you!
