Sanjeev Hansdak and Chiblesstech... want more answers
I guess posted in 2018,no time stamp, (silly fixya)
NO country stated
NO WWLAN cards stated
NO 3G service provider stated.
All our service providers will say no support here.
but do sell MiFi, lan. 3g. 4g.
so the correct answer is, it is not a Cell phone
but if you want say 3g service call your local
service provider for 3g and ask for all it takes to get that , a USB dongle now is popular here and world wide and not you WWLAN card and for sure if it is missing
do not buy the cards HP sells they are useless now.
ok?
this is necro post. but was hy-Jacked.
that sim and wwland card is obsolete.
call your service provider 3G , they will say
oh we are so sorry bla bla...
http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03559419.p...
the BIOS screen called Information , (TAG)
shows what you own;
power on and quickly hammer
hammer ESC then hit F1.
and see this. see that ABA# number (BINGO)
if it had no WWLAN then, is bet no WWLAN card is there now, I am so sure...(but look first)

hint , it will never be a CELL phone.
SIM cards are used for more things than just phones.
This is only for 3G data and internet access.
and is obsolete card.(wwlan)
Most of the service providers here in USA
will not support SIM+Your wwlan card
on their network.
but do allow this,
Mifi
they evolved to here.

SOURCE: how to use SIM in HP elitebook 8440?
That's for Ray Gallant who thinks there's no sim card slot in a lapotp :) . It is a 3g modem build in .
About your question you will need to download drivers from
HP EliteBook 8440p Notebook PC
here for the modem . You will need to select your operation system then go to Software - Solutions > and download HP Connection Manager . If it still does not work you may try to download some of the Driver - Network drivers but i'm not sure which one will work.
Using HP Mobile Broadband (select models only)
HP Mobile Broadband enables your computer to use wireless wide area networks (WWANs) to access
the Internet from more places and over larger areas than it can by using WLANs. Using HP Mobile
Broadband requires a network service provider (called a mobile network operator), which in most cases
is a mobile phone network operator. Coverage for HP Mobile Broadband is similar to mobile phone voice
coverage.
