Usual suspect is a faulty power adapter which is failing to provide enough power for the drive to spin up to speed. Try another adapter with the same ratings.

Hi Good day!! well i think your board didn't detect your HDD for some reason:
1. unexpected shutdown
2. cable not properly connect in HDD to motherboard
3. HDD have been damage because of improper shutdown.

here are the step to detect your HDD
1.pull out your cable from the HDD and then re-insert it make sure it its inserted properly.
2.go to CMOS and then in the "MAIN menu" check the primary master, primary slave, etc. in the primary master your HDD should be detect there. if not enter your primary master for auto detecting.
if nothing happens and still not detected you must replace the cable of your HDD.

Pls. Reply to help you more

I have a packard bell imedia mc1539 and have done a complete recovery on the system. Now the system will not boot. It keeps saying boot from CD and if I go to the BIOS and change the order it then will...

You'l have to make sure that the HDD is detected as the pc posts. Or, you can verify by going into the BIOS and see if the HDD is detected. Also try and check if the HDD is receiving power. When a computer is first started, the HDD will make this certain noise and initiates when powered. That's just know that the HDD powered up and initiated. So then, if the HDD is receiving power but is not detected in the BIOS, it might be the IDE cable. But in most cases, it's probably a connection issue of either the data cable, or the molex connector. Check it and verify that the HDD is detected. Good Luck.

Set HDD to master

The internal power supply to the HDD is often suspect in these units. Check you have power on the internal plug to the HDD from the circuit board. if you do not Try fitting an external HDD power supply (£15) this cured my unit which had a similar fault.
Hope this helps - good luck.

Hard Disk and Booting issue

go into your BIOS and on the bottom of your screen there should be a (last good config) of (fail-safe config) value for one or=f the F1 to F12 buttons. also. are you running a 4gb hdd??? or is that a typo? anyhow, XP REQUIRES 2GB at all times free if your hdd is running at less that that (cause its full) your boot up could be messed around. finally make sure that the little plug on your hdd is across the Master or cable select pins not the slave as this can cause probs too. good luck.
