I have an element flat panel and the power went out. I opened the back and checked the power board for burnt components and blown capacitors. I found a blown cap. I removed the board, unsoldered the bad cap and soldered the replacement to the board, plugged everything in and voila power restored!

Describe the past - How did it fail? One day or acting up for a while? Could be a weak power supply - a bad capacitor on a power supply too. Look for popped up capacitor top inside.

SOURCE: Hitachi 50"plasma model 401 wont power up

If it's failing to turn on, the main power supply is probably at fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments, you will not be able to do the repair yourself.
What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core (no laminations as with a line-frequency part) transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and mounted vertically to the board.

Before touching anything inside, especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours.

If you see signs of overheating such as discoloration of the board material, it may not be repairable but if you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power supply and install it yourself but it will likely have the same problem eventually unless they have altered the design.
If there are no signs of heat damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more expensive.
If you choose to replace or have it done, the power supply still may not be at fault since most are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an overload.

Another possibility is a close lightning strike and the factory surge protection is not up to preventing damage from those.

My Hitachi tv model p42h401a will not turn on. The "standby"light is not on either. I have checked the power supply and that is working.

Have you opened the actual TV and checked the power supply board inside? Because that is what it is. You need a new one.

P42h401a clicking and resetting whenever turned off after surge

Hi: This could be caused by a surge that may of damaged the Power supply unit. Replacing the power supply board is a good option at this point, you did not mention if you are able to watch the set, but if so and this is happening when you turn off the set the the system control board which controls the power on/off of the power supply may also of been affected.

Wii console will not power on. is there anyway to

Hi there, you could try the following:
    1. Try unplugging Wii from the power for a full 2 minutes, plug back in and power up and test (This resets the Power Adapter).
    2. If this does not resolve it then it may need to be repaired so contact Nintendo here.

Please see here for for information on Power issues with the Wii.
    Cheers

    Wii Poer voltage Damage

The problem is that the voltage in NZ is different (higher) than that of the USA, and the power adapter (gray box that plugs into the wall) has blown. Replace the power adapter and use a voltage converter that lowers the power to 115 (or 110/120) volts, and you should be good to go. ;)
