My dvd drive play cd but it cannot show or play dvd

Hello, I am using LG GSA-H55N. Few days back it was reading DVD's properly but suddenly stopped playing DVD's. It is showing the drive but on clicking the drive letter it is showing a blank page. Please help

Hi, i have LG GCC4522B CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive and my problem is that i could open & play CDs. However when i insert DVD the drive doesn't detect the DVD and it shows no DVD in drive or blank. I checked the region setting which is 1. Is it the problem of region setting if so is there any solution for this. Expecting your valuable solution in this regard.

this is a common problem with power DVD. the only solution is to uninstall power DVD and choose a different player. the program confuses LG drives

if not show then do one ting go in a device manager >system devices>pci bus>right click on it & uninstall then ur pc is restarts
& insatll ur all divce drivers correctly

DVD combo do not burn DVD's they can only read DVD read CD and burn CD to burn on a dvd you need a dvd writer. A DVD combo is a combination of just a DVD ROM and a CD-RW.

with some models (even of LG) you only get one drive DVD/CD-RW but in dome version it shows as two different drives DVD and CD-RW. consider this as partioning of a drive if its to be analogued to HDD (though its not partioning its just diffrent PROMS)

Hope you understand that there is nothing wrong with your combo its just that you are expecting it to be a DVD-RAM which it is not.

Inside the Control Panels, look for System. Double-click System and choose Device Manager. Inside Device Manager, find the CD/DVD and "Uninstall" the device. Restart the computer and let it re-load the driver. This might help. You can also try a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner.

It sounds like your computer is missing a DVD decoder software.  Witout this little thing, the drive will not work.  Try getting a program like Win DVD or Cyberlink Power DVD they are very cheap, and work well.  If this does not work, try updating both the drivers and the firmware.  

Hi Tool4theman, I have a CD/DVD r/w drive and it only says NEC DVD +RW. That is just the text the manufacturer has embedded in the device, not the results of any diagnostics. You've mentioned what program you are playing DVDs with but what are you playing your audio CDs with and are they commercial audio CDs? Have you tried running a diagnostic on your drive? Here is a link to the Sony CD/DVD diagnostic tool. Its meant for Sony drives but I have used this successfully on other drives in the past.
