Battery charging The charger does not indicate when the battery is fully charged (and hot!). Do you know how long the charging process for the lithium-ion battery NP-400 with the BC-400 should take?

Did you follow Section 9 about fully charging the battery, pressing and holding the button?

Charging Instructions 1. Plug the charger into the mains - the charger indicator light will be green.
2. Turn on the battery by press and holding the power button until the green light is illuminated.
3. Plug the battery into the charger. The charger light will turn from green to red to indicate the charging process has started.
4. Once the battery is fully charged, the charger status light will be

Yes, because the voltage and amperage input to the charger is constant, so the board management dumps excess charge once the battery is fully charged. The battery cools, but the charger warms up. Mine does the same. It is a 15 minute charger, so the current is high.

There should be a legend on the top of front of your charger that should explain the light sequence for the charging process.

Time to replace battery - not taking a charge properly.

This is a old post, But the prob is/was your Battery if defective.

Charger flashing red indicates the battery is still not full and is in the process of recharging.
Red light steady indicates your battery is fully charged and ready to operate with your Coolpix 5000.
When red light is off it indicates there is no battery inserted or the charger is not pluged in.

When batteries are placed into the charge mode, the red light will come on.
When fully charged, on those units with a green light, the green light will be an indication that your batteries are charged and if your unit has no green light, the fully charged indication will be when the red light turns iff.
