Compaq M2000 turns on using charged laptop battery but doesn't charge or turn on when using power adaptor, with or without the laptop battery

1) The AC adapter should ALWAYS be plugged into the laptop FIRST, then plugged into AC power. If not, this could create a voltage spike.

2) Let's look at the DC Power Jack, for the Compaq Presario M2000 series of Notebook PC's,

http://www.notebookparts.com/products/description.php?II=9741

The DC Power Jack is mounted to a removable circuit board.
Enlarging the view of the jack, shows us there is an Inductor.

The small 'can' standing up on the power board. This chipset could have gone south. (Bad)

How to know? Replace it, or dig out your dual trace oscilloscope. See if the Inductor works.

Could also just be cracked solder joints, of the DC Power Jack, TO that small circuit board. Solution would be to resolder it/them.

[ I WOULD however, search for a BETTER price, than listed in the link above, IF available ]

DC Power Jack is in good shape, soldered tight to the motherboard, and ruled out as the problem?
(Since you know the AC adapter is good)

Then the problem would be the Inductor on that power board, or power correcting chipset.

What one is it? Dunno.
DO KNOW is has J leads on the bottom.
CAN give examples, and perhaps you can identify using them.

My Compaq Presario M2000 has many thin vertical different color lines on its LCD screen, about 1.5 to 2 centimeters apart. What is the possible cause of this defect?

It's possible the cable between the motherboard to the display either got pinched or is slightly disconnected at either end. It is also possible that temperature fluctuation damage could of occurred. Or, it was just a defect in the screen. Sadly, there isn't anything you can do cheaply to resolve it as screens are usually more that $150. Labor to have that installed easily brings the process into $300 territory.

My presario m2000 numlock and caps lock light blink but no display kindly help

Take out the battery and disconnect the power cable. Press power button for at least 1 minute. This will remove any static power from the pc. After this just connect the power cable and see if display comes on. In case still there is no display, try bootinto safe mode with VGA display. If the display is there, thenn you need to uninstall video drivers in that and restart the computer. If still no dissplay, then the vido card might have gone bad,

I do have a problem with my presario M2000 Compaq laptop which whenever i open the laptop, it keep asking me password. Futhermore, my dvd rome cannot response to cd. can u help me. Tq

  1. Disconnect the power cable and any printers, monitors or other peripherals you may have attached your M2000. Lay the laptop face down on a table, with the front of the laptop facing you. Remove the battery by sliding the release latch to the left. The front end of the battery will pop up. Rotate the battery toward the back of the laptop to disengage it from the laptop base.
  2. Locate the hard drive on the right side of the laptop. Remove the two screws holding the hard drive cover in place and remove the cover. The hard drive will have a mylar tab on it to help remove it. Grab the tab and lift up on the left side of the hard drive until it disconnects from the motherboard. Pull the hard drive straight up to remove it from the hard drive bay.
  3. Remove the single screw holding the optical drive in place. Stick the end of a bent paper clip into the disk tray release hole on the optical drive, located on the front of the disk tray. This will eject the disk tray. Grab the tray and slide the optical drive out of the laptop base.
  4. Remove the memory modules. The memory compartment is located in the center of the M2000. Remove the two screws holding the cover in place and remove the cover. Use your fingers to spread the latches on the sides of the memory modules and slide the modules out of the sockets.
  5. Remove the mini PCI card by first removing the last cover on the bottom of the M2000. Remove the screws on the cover and remove the cover to reveal the mini PCI card. Disconnect the white and black wireless antenna cables from the card. Spread the latches on the sides of the card and slide it out of the socket. Disconnect the antenna cables from the clip attaching them to the laptop base.
  6. Remove the keyboard cover and LED board by first removing the two screws in the battery bay. These hold the keyboard cover in place. Flip your laptop over and open it up. Slide a flat-head screwdriver into the notch behind the "F1" key to unlock the keyboard cover. Do the same thing at the "F5," F11," and "Insert" keys. Pull the cover up to remove it. The LED board is under the cover. Disconnect the data cable from the motherboard and remove the two screws holding the board in place. Remove the board.
  7. Remove the keyboard by first removing the four screws holding the keyboard in place. Lift the back end of the keyboard up and tip it over so it is resting face down on the palm rest of your M2000. Disconnect the data cable from the motherboard and remove the keyboard.
  8. 8 Remove the display panel by first disconnecting the video cable from the motherboard. Disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the clips attaching them to the top cover of your laptop. Remove the six screws holding the display panel in place. Lift the display panel off of the laptop base.
  9. Remove the base enclosure by removing the three screws on the top of the laptop connecting the top to the base enclosure. Flip the laptop over and lay it face down with the front toward you. Remove the 18 screws holding the base enclosure in place. Lift the rear end of the base enclosure up until it comes free from the laptop. Once it's free, slide it back to remove it.
  10. Disconnect and remove any remaining components including the speakers, Bluetooth module and USB card. All of them are removed by the same procedure. Disconnect the cables from the motherboard and remove any screws holding the components in place. Lift the components straight up to remove them.
  11. Disconnect the fan cable running from the cooling unit to the motherboard. Remove the three screws holding the cooling unit in place and lift it straight up to remove it. To remove the CPU, turn the locking screw counter-clockwise until it clicks. Grab the CPU by the edges and lift it straight up. Put the CPU in an antistatic bag for safekeeping.
  12. Remove the motherboard by first disconnecting the touchpad cable and remove the five screws holding the motherboard in place. Lift it up by the left side and remove it from the enclosure.

Laptop screen blackens - I can just barely see the images on the screen (nothing readable) - am able to use computer through toggle display feature. On shut down the laptop screen flashes with normal...

There are a couple of issues that this could be. Most likely the inverter for the screen is failing. The inverter takes the DC current from the AC adapter and converts it to high voltage for the backlight. If this starts to fail, it can mo lonher regulate the proper voltage for the backlight and the display goes dark. The only other issue would be that the cables attaching the inverter to the screen are chaffed from rubbing up against the hinge points and need to be wrapped and re-routed to avoid chaffing and pinching.
