Same problem I am having the same problem as the parent. My television turns off immediately after turning it on. I believe it is what you described as going into protection mode. Especially since I had been playing with the convergence just a week before that (trying to fix it, as it was WAY off). I'd be interested in knowing how to reset the protection mode, and get the convergence back to normal. I do have some very basic electronic skills.

Look for a factory reset in the users manual. If you don't have the manual, it's available at www.samsung.com

On my vizio tv all of a sudden something about the parental control popped up. I turned it off and now it turns on but immediately turns off again. What's going on?

Your set is going schizo. Try unplugging it for a while and pressing some reset button (if available) and see what happens.

I have the same problem. I'm guessing mine is broken and will need to be replaced. However i did read a possible solution on a site with slightly different instructions to the ones in the box that describes how to pair the two devices together.

turn both the nursery and parent units off.
turn on the parent unit.
hold menu for 5 secs until it beeps.
turn on the nursery unit.
the parent unit waits for the signal then pairs.

if the nursery unit just waits 20 seconds then beep beep beeps and turns off i guess yours is broken too. I think its probably the nursery unit has stopped transmitting.

they will replace or repair a unit that less than 12 months from date of purchase with a supporting receipt.

TV turns itself off after turning on. TV screen goes black.

Based on what I have read AKAI has reoccurring problems with power supply and bad DVD sound. The problem you have is caused by the DVD player trying to start. Never leave a disk in when you shut it off or you will have the same symptom you are describing.

Parental code

although my situation was a bit different, part of msimeomix's solution still worked. after entering the password "3308," the screen went blank. i knew this parental code had worked but it would still not allow me to access the "setup" or "menu" options. i pressed "STOP" and then ejected the disc/turned the DVD player off. upon turning it back on and entering the password "3308" i was able to immediately press "PLAY" and it worked. enjoy the movie :]
