The head unit tape/cd button only recognizes tape function and cassette works fine. Pushing the button over and over, it will not say cd....no cd error...nothing....just stays on tape. Seems like a short has developed without warning....Used to work consistently fine, then "poof"....tape only....Any ideas??? Thanks, [email protected]

Dont know Steve, i am no fundi with electronics but could it be that your system is set up for the steering remote, or perhaps not activating because of a wiring or button contact issue ?
Hope you get it sorted out.
Richard.

Hi John, when you think about it, it could only be one of two things either the bus lead or the RCAlead as everything is in them leads to run the cd unit, So check that all leads are secure to see what happens.

try pressing the reset switch or disconnecting power to the radio for a few minutes. sometimes jumping the battery sends a voltage spike to the radio and locks up the microprocessor.

I replaced the c43 head unit with the c43 from my other e36 and it works fine, put the faulty head unit in my other car and encountered the same problem.....ergo-problem is located in the faulty head unit for sure....
