DON'T buy a universal remote. No one does that any more. You buy the original or a facsimile remote which is an exact copy of the original with no programming. $20 only.
But if you really want to go back to the 1980s

look on the motor or control box should be a button to add new remote hold button down for 5 seconds and press the new remote 4 to 6 times. if no button then you need to have the original remote code copied to the new remote, most places where you can get a key cut have the machine to copy and transfer the code.
Hi. If you do not have the original remote to learn the commands, there is not much that can be done by yourself. In this case, I suggest calling Logitech's tech support, because they have the ability to copy in commands from their database which may be able to control your device. I hope this helps.
Usually the same t.v. BRAND [example:: RCA,Philco, etc] with a DIFFERENT remote control will NOT work on the other t.v. with the same BRAND. they do that to money. You may have to acquire [buy] another universal r/c.
It may not be able to run the GPX dvd player as GPX is not a mainstream brand, if you have the original GPX remote, you might purchase a learning remote that can copy remote codes from the original, I have seen these Learning Remotes from around $20 by Phillips Magnavox if I remember correctly.
Universal remote control are normally programmed for basic functions, ie. chennel up down, volume up down, numbers, etc.
This is even written in the manual that they do not guarantee that all functionality can be used.
Here are your options:
1. Try all the codes that match your TV, there is a slim chance that the other code have the functionality that you need.
2. Buy the original model remote control.
3. If you know of someone that have the same TV, buy a universal remote control with 'learning' function and copy the signal from the original remote control.
I have the same problems before. Now I use my Casio wrist remote control to copy the special functions such as A/V so that even if the original remote control is lost, I can still use these functionality
