MFC-665CW "unable to print" 50 error

I own a MFC-665CW. How do I clear the "unable to print" 50 error?

Thank you, Eagle, this was good advice. It worked! I can add to it. I have a MFC-665CW. When you open the printer so that you can see the print head, move the print head with your hands, pull it to the middle. The space immediately to the front of the printer is blocked by the plastic shield. you can curl your fingers down under this shield. you will feel the encoder strip, which is about 8 mm wide, and is a plastic ribbon, or strip. It runs from left side to right side across the printer, in a vertical orientation. This is the encoder strip. past this you can feel a longer rubber belt, which is about 3 mm wide. this is not the encoder strip, it is a belt and you don't need to be concerned with this. I placed my fingers on the encoder strip on either side of the print head, and flexed it, bending it up and slightly back, and then released it. i tried several times. do it with power on. a soon as you get the encoder strip back into it's slot, the printer will start a cleaning cycle and start working.

Did you have a paper jam before this happened? If yes then the paper must have pushed the encoder strip out of alignment. You will need to turn off the printer and then push it back into slot to fix it. Let me know if you need more help. Sai.

What exactly do you mean by move the encoder strip back into place? where can it go? as far as i can tell the encoder strip is locked onto the head and cant be moved either way without moving the head, thats how its made. the idea behind that strip is to tell the printer where the head is by the markings on that strip. so i cant understand how it can be out of position in the first place? the gears that drive it are spring loaded so it will just slip rather than than change places on the head, again this is made so it will always be able to know where it is even if it slips it cannot change its position on the head. its more likely to have a speck of dirt or ink splatter on it and thats throwing the sensors reading off. please explain how im incorrect in my thinking.

i have a error 50 and error 30 after a paper jam, it was the first page i tried to print using my comp, i was copying without my comp just fine, then it never worked after i carefully removed the piece of paper that was partially printed but never made past the outfeed of the carriage. i have inspected everything and found the head was not moving freely, i lubed it and got it to move. but now when the head is full left it is not fully engaging the gears from the lever on the left. the gears are in front of the head on the left front corner of the carriage area. i hear a gear slipping sound 2 times, after the 2nd short slip it then moves 1 inch to center and error 50.

when i solve it ill report back with pictures.

Im getting unable to print 50 error on my brother mfc 665cw

The paper jam you had probably lifted the long, thin, plastic encoder strip out of its slot. It is making the printer think paper is still jammed. Try gently pushing the strip back into the slot. You might have to use a screwdriver or other thin instrument to get to the strip.
Be sure printer is off when you do this.

How do I clear "Unable to Print 51" Error Code on a Brother MFC-665CW All in one Printer

51 error says that the purge assembly is stuck and not cycling properly. If you can power up and get the printhead to the center and unplug again, look with a flashlight in the far right corner where the printhead parks for any paper scraps or things that don't belong and remove them it might work again. Otherwise a shop repair to possibly replace the cleaning assembly.

Unable to print 30 or 50

the encoder strip is probably out of its socket. its a long mylar strip that goes from one side to the other, and goes underneath the printhead.

I have a brother mfc 665cw printer, had a printer jam, cleared the jam and now recieve unable to print 50 error, unable to copy or print. Have found some information about the encoder strip but I have no...

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud
