CC (closed caption) won't show up on DVD movies for LG 42CS570 hooked up with standard DVD player (not Blu-ray). How can I fix that?

I hooked up two different standard DVD players (Magnavox and Coby) to the LG tv but CC won't show up. It works on cable and some DVD movies don't include subtitles like CC only. I can't watch the movies like that. How do I hook the dvd player up and make CC working for the DVD movies (some DVDs don't have subtitles included). Please help! Thanks!

SOURCE: hooked up cable box, wii box and dvd player to new

Connect the Wii and the DVD player to different ports on the TV to and any other device to the port in which the Wii and the DVD player were connected to check if the issue is with the port.

If other devices also display in black and white after connecting them to the port to which the Wii and the DVD player were originally connected then the ports require servicing.

SOURCE: Invalid format error with P1600 blu-ray and LG LCD TV 42"

It may be a firmware issue if hdmi works with other items such as playstation.
If no hdmi the main Pcb hdmi ports are bad and the main Pcb would have to be replaced.

Consumers cannot upgrade the firmware so a shop would be the only option.

Hello
Connections with DVD-TV is of main concern. For HDCP connections, very high quality cables [like Monster Cables] should be used. There is special type of cables to connect to HDCP. The length, wire guage, shield of these cables are of special types, and signal loss will be negligable. Connect the TV with DVD with good quality cable packed specially for HDCP. This will solve the problem. OK.

Will this dvd player play closed caption dvd's?

It depends on the TV.Go to your TV menu and look for cc on or off. Also it depends on the movie or TV show programming. Some movies might not show cc and offer subtitles, use subtitles if your TV does not have the cc option.

How can I get rid of subtile from my lcd tv

Subtitle or Closed captions?

If so, there should be a CC button on your remote.
Or, in the menu--there should be a way to turn it off.

FYI - some shows and movies have forced subtitles.

I hope this helps!

Lg blu ray shows intermittent black screen for 15 seconds

The problem is in the laser pickup, there is a cable that is hooked to the pickup head and lower printed circuit board, from the sounds of it the cable has become intermittent, play a standard dvd movie, if no change a defective flat cable, but if problem stops it is the laser pickup head.

I can't get closed caption off my dvd player

Some DVD players cannot handle closed captions. Cheaper or older hardware players sometimes strip out the closed caption data. Players that have a progressive scan mode sometimes block captions when in this mode. And anything that's connected with an HDMI cable can't pass through captions. Most software players that you use when you play a DVD on your computer don't have any way to decode the captions. Windows Media Player can display DVD captions, and Apple DVD Player can display pop-on captions but not roll-up style captions. Certain paid versions of WinDVD and PowerDVD have CC capability. Look in your player's preferences to see if there are any closed caption options.

There is a black box on the tv screen. It is there while the movie DVD is playing.

Please check your closed caption sttings. There is one like that. You should have your CC in OFF or 1 if you need it (IN the TV)

Closed Captions won't work

make sure your dvd player has the capability to display closed captions, as not all of them do, also if it does have the capabilities, it may need a scart connection.

Closed caption on dvds

Your TV will need to have (CC) capability. To view Closed Captioning (CC) information from a DVD using the CC function of the television, turn off the Progressive Scan function of the DVD player. If the DVD player doesn't have progressive scan then follow the instructions from your TV manual to setup closed captioning.
