You sure confused me . . .
My recently purchased BCD396XT came with a mind of its own - not matter what I did, it would only scan the preprogrammed systems in Alaska. That didn't do much for me here in Texas, so I had to beat the thing into submission. First I installed BuTel programming software, then I deleted ALL the factory programming. Finally, I used the software to download and program what I wanted from the database at www.RadioReference.com. The scanner does exactly what I want it to.

How do i find the 6 pre programmed emergency channels on my bc72xlt scanner. i don't have a manual for this scanner. all i have used it for is nascar races.

Repeatedly pressing the HOLD key will advance the unit through all channels and bring up anything that you've programmed into it, and repeatedly pressing the SVC key will advance the scanner through the preprogrammed services (police, fire, marine, etc.). For more information you can download/print your scanner's manual here:

You can't add to the preprogrammed search functions, but you can program frequencies from these bands into any locations you wish within the 100 programmable channels, where it will jump bands while scanning.

You are not in the programmable channel mode, so you can only receive preprogrammed frequencies. Press the "hold" button, then the "func" key, then the "E" key. Now type the frequency you wish to program & press "E" again. To continue to the next channel, press "E" & repeat the programming procedure.
