Question about Black & Decker GCO12SFB 12Volt NiCad 38Inch Cordless DrillDriver with Storage Bag and Stud Sensor

1 Answer

Drill has no torque when screwing or drilling.

Inherited the drill with the house that we just moved in to. The drill should have a rotational speed of what, 650 RPM? It doesn't get anywhere near that. Further, attempts to use the drill as an electric screwdriver, or even to drill, are fruitless. The drill is unable to unscrew/screw all except the loosest screws, cannot drive a screw into a wall for anything, and cannot drill holes to save its life. Attempting to drill a hole results in the speed dropping to <60 RPM, and occasionally stalling entirely. My dad is suggesting that we replace the battery, but we have two batteries and the drill behaves as described with either one. I'm not sure as to what value replacing the battery with a brand new one could have in this instance.

SOURCE: damaged chuck on a a.e.g. drill, chuck is one half

Jacobs makes a couple different kinds. You say no screw inside so I would guess it is the tapered fit. It will require a couple of shims to be driven in between the chuck and head of the drill to press the chuck off. There are tools to do this but sometimes this can be done with shims. Shim each side the same and tap them in equally. If you are familiar with the pickle fork used on auto's to remove ball-joints, something like this may work as well. I hope this helps you.

Trying to change drill bit on Craftsman Rotary Variable speed drill

Lock the spindle (small chrome button near the tool's nose or lever at the power switch). You'll probably need to rotate the spindle by hand as much as one full turn as you do this, to get the lock to drop into place.

With the spindle locked, use your supplied wrench to turn the collet nut counter-clockwise (as seen from the cutter end) about one full turn. The collet should now be plenty loose enough to release the cutter / wheel / drill.

Makita 6935FD has lost all torque. The drill varies speeds when not under load, but won't drive a screw. The battery is charged. If I get the trigger in just the right place the drill will hammer once,...

Remove the brush caps and have a look at the brush length.
If they are extremely short, or barely touching the commutator bars on the armature, you will need to purchase a brush set part # (193466-2). The way you are describing it behaving without a load, and charged battery, I can only assume this will fix it. The other thing you can do is open the clamshell housing and with a pick, attempt to move the armature fan and see if it will make several full rotations. I want to know if a piece of the magnet ring broke loose and is rolling around between the armature and the magnet ring causing your varying RPM.

Hi i cant move my torque setting its just stuck on hammer and drill, speed ie 1 to 3 is okay but i cant get it to move to 1 to 21 is this a common problem thanks

You have an internal issue in the housing. Sometimes they will move while slowly operating the drill. If that does not work, the housing has to come apart, more specifically the head.

Black and decker cordless drill trigger

Ok, first check to see if the trigger lockout has been engaged, it's a small level at the top of the trigger ( I know this sounds silly, but it happens sometimes). Flip it side to side to see if you can hear the selector moving the switch inside the drill. If the selector moves freely without engaging the switch, you'll have to disassembly the drill housing to put the selector back into the lever so it will work.

Just take out all the screws in the housing and carefully remove the one side and look at the switch lever and make sure it is inside the slide selector lever.

If that isn't the issue, I'm afraid that the electric trigger/switch has failed and this isn't a part that can be disassembled and repaired by a DIY'er. I've attempted it when mine failed and found out it's a sealed unit and wrapped in a copper heat shield that dissapates heat when the variable speed is utilized and you end up destroying the switch housing in the process.

However, any DeWalt authorized repair center can do the repair for around $20 +/-, and if your drill is under the 3 year warranty period, it should be a free, warranty repair. Just contact DeWalt's customer service or your local Authorized Service Center (listed in phone book usually), or check the link for finding one near you.

www.dewalt.com or call 1-800-4-DEWALT (1-800-433-9258

Click on the "Services/Support" tab to get info. You can also buy the replacement parts if your drill is out of warranty (call them to verify before takin it apart!) and do the repair yourself.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
