If it is dark due to brightness adjustment, get that adjusted. Usually when you adjust the brightness by pressing the menu button, the menu screen would not be dark. If everything is dark dark dark and you can only see some display but in very pitch darkness, then your monitor is a goner, backlit for the monitor is dead, and your monitor will need to be replaced. You can fix the backlit tubing, however it is risky, and expensive, and would cost less if you bought a replacement.
Dim or dark display can be caused by a faulty inverter board or faulty CCFL lamp. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp, the CCFL lamp is a miniture fluro tube and these dim with age. In your monitor panel you'll find 4 buttons. Press the menu button and get into Magic Bright. There you can choose the one that best suits you. You can even set to Dynamic contract where the monitor adjusts the brightness according to the elements on the screen
when it goes dark disconnect the data cable of the monitor from the system end and if u still see nothing

It could be a few things, it may be the monitor itself, which naturally has dark picture.
Or by factory default the monitor has low brightness.
Try going into the menu and putting the brightess up.
Most monitors have low brightness by default.

Dark spots indicator that the Liquid crystals are not being dispursed properly when the monitor is powered on! That could be a problem! In additon it depends on how old the monitor is as well or how new because nothing is guaranteed! Monitor is going bad!
