How to enter recovery mode

I need to enter in recovery mode at boot because blue screen appearing immediately after boot. Pressing F8 or F5 does nothing. F11 (suggested as "boot menu" on screen) offers only the option to select boot device but not any boot mode. Any way out?

I have an MSI Wind U100 MS-N011 netbook, and recovery mode is entered by pressing the F3 key during boot up. This starts the Recovery Manager from which you can select "reset to factory default". This procedure assumes the recovery partition has not been deleted. I believe the procedure to be the same for all MSI notebooks and netbooks.

Acer laptop stuck on Windows boot manager

1. Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time.
2. During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup."

The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard.

5. Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection.
The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again.

My computer will not open windows after power failure the screen is blue

This sounds like a BSOD (blue screen of death). This usually means there is a serious issue either with the hardware or with windows itself. Normally a bsod will have text, along with a line in the format:
0x00000000 _ _
If you could provide the part similar to above (where the _ _ is two letters or numbers) it would allow for better understanding of the issue.

Thanks

I have a HP Touchsmart IQ500 that is a little over a year old. It was working fine and I went out one day to come back and start it up to find it was only a blue screen with a few options.I found someone...

Hi,
This might be an issue with the Hard drive or the operating system installed on the hard drive.
Try to access BIOS screen tapping on F10 on restart.
If you are able to access Bios try to run the Short smart self test on the Hard drive.
To run the test follow the steps as follows:
on the main window you will see 1 st drive 2nd drive 3rd drive 4th drive.
besides these drive letters you will find your Hard drive listed.
Highlight that and press enter.
on the next screen highlight Smart support and press enter.
on the next screen select Short smart self test and run the test.
If it gives an error code that means the hard drive has gone bad.
2)If not then come back on the main page by clicking on ESC button till you come back to the main page.then Press F5 select yes to load set up defaults and press enter.Press F10 once to save configuration changes and press enter.
It will boot to windows.
3)Still if you face the same issue then you need to perform the recovery using the recovery cds.
4)If you don't have the recovery cds then you can contact HP support and order the cds and perform the recovery.
This should resolve your issue.
Thanks.

that's an OS problem, or malware. If you're running Windows, try to boot into safe mode (press F8 and choose "safe mode" or F5) and see if you get your desktop back. You can go directly into recovery mode from the F8 boot mode selection menu also.

Windows xp logo will start to load then......

To solve this will require more information from you. The Blue screen is Windows way of telling you that it has a driver issue with a basic component, usually your video card. Did you recently make any hardware changes? If so please let me know what was changed.

When windows first boots, you can repeatedly press the F8 key until you see a menu giving you choices of windows booting. You need to select Safe Mode. Safe mode should allow you to at least boot without a blue screen. The blue screen could also be cause by a virus or other software.

Microsoft has a description of Safe mode here;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222
but here is a quick snippet
To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
