Pump stars but kills motor - Comet Garden

check that the kill switch is operational
check for immobiliser operation
if possible run the fault codes

That is an interesting question but it would be totally dependent on where you might be trying to measure it which is not necessary anyway. The 96 RS has 4 28mm constant velocity Mikuni carbs. the fuel is delivered to the carbs from the tank through a petcock to a small pump located under the seat. The carbs are not really pressurized as much as "fed" so any positive pressure from the pump will work. When it is pumping it has very audible "clicks" that you ought to hear each time you turn on the key with the kill switch on. These pumps run on different voltages, different speeds, and are triggered by diaphragm pressure inside the pump, they are not adjustable and either work or not so there is really no fuel pressure measurement that you could take that would mean anything.

-if you believe that the pump might not work correctly. You need to check fuse pressure. If it's within its specification than there is other than the pump. It could be bad plug wire, spark plugs are too old.

The spider is made of plastic. Heat kills with time. Replace the spider.

Check the inertia switch. That switch kills everything.

Also, make sure you don't have any "theft" codes as this will also not allow the pump to turn on.

Assuming you checked fuses and are getting juice at the pump wire.

Don't need to say it but I will. Never check a used fuel pump outside of the vehicle. They do blow up!

Assuming nothing is jamming the impellor it sounds like a capacitor fault. Sometimes these are built in to the pump which can be a pain to get to. Normally near the handle where the cable enters the pump. If your lucky it will be mounted in a control box. Small cylindrical item about 3 inches long. Prob around 10, 12 or 16 micro farad. Easy to change, 2 wires not essential which way round

verify all three legs of the power are on. You could have a single blown fuse that would cause the motor to single phase and not run.

check the oil level ........ no oil pressure the ecu kill the pump may be the oil pump bad ........... if you press the gas pedal littlebit the engine start and keep runing and later on hapen again the idle valve is going bad
