I have the Yamaha hooked up to a Sony and when I change channels using my DirectTV remote I loose all sound. The sound returns if I change the video source from DTV/CBL to something else and back.

If your using HDMI. The HDMI technology in version 1.1 & 1.2 was riddled with problems. Check your owners manual for version.Or, try the Coaxial Digital or optical output from your sat receiver to your Yamaha receiver, go into "GUI" "Menu" not sure which on the HTR series and Lock the audio input to Coaxial or Optical on CBL/SAT. Then Test. If it still has issues, check the settings for Audio on the SAT receiver and make sure they are correct. If you still have a problem, use a standard RCA from the sat receiver to the Yamaha. At this point audio should be rock solid on analog. Look on the back of your DSS receiver for the model # & write it down. Then go into the units menu "SAT" and check it's firmware version for version and date. It may need an update. Go to your Sat's website, Directv or Dishnetwork and go to support, enter model # and look for any updates that may apply. Hope this helps

No Video

Have you tried using 01 or 00 as a channel to view your DVD input?

Try that...
Also, try looking for your manual here:

Someone sat on the remote control for my Yamaha rx v557 and I have no tv picture--do have sound. System is set up to Direct TV. I can change channels and hear everything fine, but can't get a TV picture It...

If it was the remote that changed the function then likely the mode has been changed. You probably need to have it changed back to the input you plugged your DirectTv into, such as video1 or component, or cable/sat. etc, etc...

Instead of spending money on a repair, try by-passing problem =
Hook-up from yellow, red and white out of source box into

I have picture and sound when I watch a dvd/video but not through cable.

Try turning off the dvd/vcr and put your tv on the output channel of your DirectTv receiver. If this doesn't work it may not be hooked up correctly.

Snowy picture, no reception?

Hi, Your question "Do bigger TV's need an aerial booster or something?" - No, normally it should work straight out. Boosters are used for fringe location not bigger TV. Pls a questions and some ideas: 1. "TV worked fine the night before" was it hooked up to Cable or aerial? 2. If cable, it is necessary that you change the settings of the TV from cable to STD or Air or something like that. Normally this can be done via the remote, menu, setting, set-up; 3. If aerial, you would probably need the assistance of a qualified service personnel. Apparently something got loose inside the Philips TV, not a big problem because you can still receive (BBC 1) but not the other channels, possibly a loose wiring, a disconnected connector. 4. If you feel comfortable working on it yourself, unplug the tv and the aerial, open the back and poke around. Trace from the aerial jack, the lead wires used, the connector to the main circuitry. Wiggle the wires a bit for any loose connection. 5. If #4 is not to your liking or if you do not find anything or no significant improvement after closing it up and running it again, guess you're back to #3. Hope this gives you some idea. Lots of luck and kind regards from the Philippines.

Screen is green and pink

This can happen if your component cables are not pushed in all the way. Sometimes they become loose, so just make sure they are pushed in all the way.
