Machine is jamming

The upper thread keeps breaking and there is oil on the thread that is stitched in the cloth. The machine keeps jamming and the hand wheel won't turn. Very aggrivating!

You need to remove the bobbin from the "race" by following the instructions in the manual. Give it a good clean and remove any bits of fluff and thread. Remove the upper thread also andmake sure that the tension wheel is clear of any broken threads and is on the correct setting. It may have been threaded wrong. The hand wheel not turning sounds like the bobbin area is jammed also.

I have a janome 6600. The stitches started jamming up and breaking. What might be causing the challenge with the stitches?

Difficult to say without really seeing what's happening and which thread is breaking. If the top thread is breaking, check to make sure the thread is not wrapped around the spool pin or a thread guide.

Just some things to try:
Install a brand new needle.
Be sure to clean and remove all the thread pieces, lint, etc from under the needle plate, around the shuttle, etc. Oil as instructed in the owner's manual.
Remove all the thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top and rethread the machine from the beginning. Check that the thread path is correct and the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly.

Be sure to use good quality thread--no Old or bargain bin threads!

Embroidery not working correctly

Well, before I did all that (which may be necessary), I would take a piece of UNWAXED dental floss or hand embroidery floss and floss between the tension disks. You mentioned that you were suddenly breaking threads; there may be lint or loose threads or both seated between the disks, preventing the thread from seating properly. Then,
I would take the embroidery unit off and try to do some sewing with it, to see what results I got. If you can catch and bring the bobbin thread to the top with the top thread, I am doubtful that your timing is off. Sew a line of both straight stitch and zigzag stitches, and see if the stitches are balanced. If not, you may have a bobbin tension issue, and if so, most bobbin cases can be adjusted.

I think you'll find, though, that things will improve considerably when you have cleaned out the upper thread path and tension disks. Make sure when you do that, that your foot is raised, so that the disks are spread. Oh, a drop of sewing machine oil wouldn't hurt either--generally you should put a drop of oil for every 5 hours of embroidery.

Riccar sewing machine keeps breaking thread makes about 4 stitches and then the thread breaks. GRRRRRRRRR.

Oh yes. GRRRRRR is the word!!! I hope I can help.

In many cases, breaking thread is caused by the upper tension being too tight, so that's something to check.

Another thing is to change your needle. If it's at all bent it can break the thread.

Third thing is to make sure you're using new, high quality thread. Older thread breaks more easily, especially if it's been in the sun.

Finally, clean and oil the machine. A bit of lint in the bobbin area can do all kinds of havoc.

Hope this helps!!

My sewing machine keeps getting jammed when sewing. the top stitch keeps getting tangled in with the bobbin thread and jamming up the machine.

Hello,
Here are a couple of things to try.

* Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your
bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and re-thread your bobbin.

* Change your bobbin
There could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you
sew.

* When you start to sew a seam, grasp the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back
and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting
caught in your machine.

I hope this helps.
