I am speculating you have a fairly new tablet with the ability to support mini htmi. If so, then it may just work once you install a mini hdmi to hdmi adapter and respond to messages.

I would say power off your tablet. Power it back on and see if the app works. If that does not work then uninstall the app. Install it again from the app store. Hopefully this fixes the issue.
You are limited to which IOS will go on your Ipad mini. It is Apple's way to let you know that some of the software will not work with your current hardware.

I have a similar challenge. Netflix works fine on my iPad mini and Samsung smart TV. The trouble is on the Apple TV .
I think I restarted the Apple TV to set this right.
Try going to settings -general -reset on the iPad 2 and see if there is a possibility there.
