I was viewing several recorded digital video tapes on my computer through my digital camcorder (JVC GR-D72) to label them, and after reviewing 6 tapes with no problem, there is no playback on the 7th. I know there is video on the tape - I tested this by putting one in that I recently viewed and got the same response - no playback - a blue screen. Everything else seems to be working fine, although I haven't tested the recording ability because I don't have a blank tape right now. The LCD viewed images just fine, though, when I tried that. The tapes rewind and fast forward just fine. Any idea why it would suddenly not play back recorded video and what I can do about this?
It souunds like the problem is in the Vid-PC connection. I suggest you start by downloading the latest version of whatever software you have used to capture and view.
Also - uninstall any hardware in the PC that is used to capture (just remove from system device list) and then restart the PC and let it detect and re-install.
If you don't know how to do these steps, then you'll need geek help.

I have a similar issue. I went to upload several tapes today and found the first one to be blank -- no sound or video. Even tapes that I know have video on them, show a blue screen with no sound.
Is this a dirty tape head issue? Should I run a cleaner? The video and picture quality never diminished, the readability simply disappeared. Please help! These tapes have 2 months worth of my 1 year old's life on them!!!
Thanks for the suggestion, but the playback problem exists in the camera, not necessarily between camera and computer. I have a mac and didn't need to download any software to view video. The video won't play back on the camera, just a blank blue screen.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the video doesn't play back on the camera regardless of the computer hookup. I have a Mac and didn't need to download software to view video, but regardless because there is a blank blue screen on the video camera when you try to play back the tape on the camera. Thanks anyway...
everything plays back in fast forward mode when using 8mm tapes?
