I tried connecting my pc through the hdmi on my Yamaha RX-V375 and also connect digital for sound because my pc hdmi doesnt have sound. Still cant get sound. I went to the menu and chose hdmi 2 and AV 2 but still no luck. Ended up with direct connect of pc to tv and digital audio to receiver. Can I use hdmi for video only with seperate audio input?

You cant use HDMI and a separate audio device. But you can use 'VGA' and a separate audio device.

Testimonial: "I figured it out. you don't change sound through settings but through options. in options you go to audio in and switch it to av2. Now I can use hdmi for pc video and av2 for digital audio, much better."

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: My Yamaha receiver model rx-v565 audio is putting

Do not run HDMI to your receiver. Run Digital Coaxial or Optical from cable box to your 565. The problem is on many levels. Hardware, Software, Audio Codecs, etc. your receiver is HDMI version 1.1. The current version is 1.3b. You can thank the recording industry for copyright protection for this issue. To have your receiver updated would be Very expensive and not worth it. If you want a blow by blow explanation of all HDMI's issues, Google HDMI forums or problems, and you can read for hours. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Intermittant Audio with Yamaha RX-V465 only from cable box

I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't.
You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.

The FM quit working (no sound) on my Yamaha RX-V375 receiver. AM works fine. All other systems are good.

This is pretty general, but the antennae connections might be checked. Also, is there any FM hiss, or is it that there isn't any sound of any kind when switched to FM?

No sound coming out of sub woffer

you need an active speaker. plus you need to connect it to the right output on the back of the receiver.

RX-V365 doesn't support sound over HDMI. It can switch the video+audio from HDMI in to HDMI out, but can't play the sound through the speakers. You need to connect the audio separately via optical or coax digital cable.

Is the Yamaha RX-V596 capable of using HDMI in

Nope. Use S-Video or composite video In and digital audio in from the Cable Box, S- or composite-video out to the TV/Monitor.

OR (what I do) skip the receiver as a video middleman and take the HDMI video right to the TV; and run the Cable Box digital audio to the Receiver.

How to connect the PS3 to RX-V365 to get best sound qualitity in films. I have sony BRAVIO LCD wiht PS3 and I recently bought RX-V365 Yamaha home theater system. Please advice on connecting all three to...

You can connect PS3 video via HDMI to receiver and from receiver via HDMI to TV. But RX-V365 doesn't support HDMI audio, so you have to connect audio separately via SPDIF digital cable. I think PS3 uses optical SPDIF, so you will need optical cable. If you can't find cheaps optical cables in your shop, you can try byuing from ebay ($1-5 max.)

I own a Yamaha RX-v365 and i cant figure out how to connect my PS3 to the surround sound. For some reason the HDMI cables wont work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As above :
Connect PS3 via HDMI to DTV/IN, Connect HDMI from out to TV's HDMI/IN. Connect TV's Optical out to amps DTV/Optical in.

2X HDMI cables and one Optical are required.

I have the V363 but yours looks the same.

Enjoy great sound :)

OH: choose the DTV input then stereo and then dolby etc .. cheers

Cannot get my yamaha rx-v663 to decode DolbyTrueHD audio of get my SBL/SBR speakers to work without turning the bi-amp on.

You should always connect with HDMI when using and decoding HD sound formats. If you use the normal digital option it will use PCM. Also check if your source is set to HD formats via HDMI connections.

this sounds strange, but is true. you need to run your digital audio optical cable from your tv to your receiver (after, of course, connecting tv/receiver via hdmi). so, hdmi from blue ray to rec - hdmi from rec to tv - then optical from tv back to rec. it's round about, but that is how yamaha says (and the only way it works) to do it.
