Memory Card Error on 4 Gb CF cards (80x) for Pentax Optio 430

Bought two 4 Gb CF cards (80x) for my old Pentax Optio 430 and after a couple of photos the camera said Card Format Error. Yet the cards seem fine in other cameras. I've tried formatting the cards, but still get the same problem. Can my camera take 4 Gb cards, or is the speed the problem?

The maximum supported memory for Pentax Optio 430 is 256mb and for Pentax Optio 430 RS is 512mb.

The S6 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card and will not work with your camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

No. The S40 works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards. You have to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

The problem is your camera doesn't work with the 4gb card, its too big. Sorry!

Your stuck with 2gb cards. Id suggest to echange the card to two 2gb cards.

4gb Memory card error
In order to use 4gb memory your camera has to be approve for SDHC use.

If it isn't the most memory you can put into your camera is 2 gb

Largest capacity SD card for Pentax Optio S5N
The maximum supported size is most likely 2GB SD Card. Cards with 4GB and more are following a new (incompatible) standard called SDHC (SD High Capacity), SDHC cards work only in devices specifically supporting SDHC. The Optio S5N uses the old SD standard where 2GB are the maximum size.
