Nortron smoke detector

After the dryer runs for about 30 minutes the smoke detector down stairs in the garage goes off. There is no visible smoke anywhere and there is no smell of smoke anywhere. We have had the fire department out twice and they have tried different detectors and they all go off. What can it be.

What type of smoke alarm is it? Photoelectric or ionization? Is the dryer vented to the outside of the structure? High humidity can cause them to alarm.

Lint might be causing the detector to go off. Check your vent piping to be sure it is 100% sealed and all going outside. A quick test that might provide some data is to run the dryer empty with no heat. Does the detector still go off? If the detector is silent being empty with no heat then it could be lint ... or something having to do with the heat source. You did not indicate whether the dryer was gas or electric
Good luck with your troubleshooting

Bro there is a possibility that the sensor is going off due to power surges while using the dryer, turning it on and off will cause power fluctuations, you need an electrician to measure the current\voltage while you which on the dryer, if this is the cause he will advise you on how to avoid future false alarms.

SOURCE: My Atwood LP Gas Detector is sounding an alarm every 30 secs.

The alarm you are getting is telling you that the battery has nearly gone. Some gas detectors you have to renew as the crystals used to detect the gas oxydise after about five years, and are no good.

May pay you for your safety to get a new one. Try Wallmart or similar.

Is Nortron AC12W still available

Hello, Harold -

If you are asking about a Nortron smoke detector, I have no idea how your question landed in the Fixya.com category for Computers & Internet.

IF you mean the Nortron AC12W smoke detector, I do not find that it is still manufactured.

If my guess at what you mean is incorrect, please click or tap on Comment and explanatory information.

Best wishes.

Where are batteries on model ac12w

Am unable to find much information on Nortron Model AC12W detectors. I do know they are pretty old and may not have a battery back up. Because of the age you may want to think about replacing the detector.

Had customer with CO detector sounding quick double chirp about every five minutes. What is this?

This is not a beeping smoke detector. It is probably a CO detector that was installed by your alarm company. GE model 240-COE will give a double beep every 5.5 minutes when the device reaches end of life. Call your alarm company to have it replaced.

Check ur main a/c source of power yet? This kind of smoke detector draw alot of power.Battery replacement should used the best kind of batteries out there like Duaracell,Energizer or litium rechargable batteries. After the replacement of the battery, should press the reset button like for at leat minute for the smoke detector to go off for about 30 sec. for it to dectect the new back up battery power source.Should solved this lower power detection problems.
